We couldn't be prouder of our very own Dr. Faye McGechie who successfully defended her dissertation entitled "Functional Myology of the Primate Nuchal Region and Implications for Hominin Evolution." Dr. McGechie's groundbreaking research incorporating novel imaging and analytic approaches to studying the functional anatomy of such a complex and poorly understood system forges new ground in primate biology. Her work paves the way for new insights into the evolution of primate locomotor diversity and reconstructions of behavior in fossil primates. We are also thrilled to announce that Dr. McGechie will soon start a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Zeray Alemseged at the University of Chicago. Many Congrats, Faye!

Big congrats to Spiro Sullivan for being recognized for outstanding outreach as a graduate student. Spiro has made some phenomenal tools and demos for explaining how muscles are built and how they work. Maybe you’ve seen them around town!

Congratulations to Emily Lessner, Kaleb Sellers and Spiro Sullivan our 2019-2020 Outstanding Graduate student awardees. Emily won Outstanding Researcher for hitting just about every grant out there (and a paper or more?). Watch out! Kaleb won Outstanding Teacher because he’s simply fantastic with our students and likely yours. Spiro won Outstanding Outreach Educator for developing several cool contraptions that demonstrate how muscles and bones work he then shares at fairs... and events. We tracked them down and delivered breakfast along with certificates.

Let's offer a another big welcome to new Integrative Anatomy student and Anatomy Fellow Eden Mackereth!! Eden is from Thunder Bay Ontario. She likes to hike, swim, canoe and write. About coming here, Eden says: "I’m here because I want to continue to pursue my passion of paleoanthropology and hominin evolution at a graduate level. I want to study the anatomy of human ancestors, and how that relates to their behaviour, dispersal, and interactions with their environment. " Welcome to Mizzou Integrative Anatomy Eden! Its going to be a great year.

Let's offer a big welcome to new Integrative Anatomy student and Life Sciences Fellow Mara Fields!! Mara is from Oklahoma City. She likes to draw, play videos games, and annoy her hamster. About coming here, Mara says: "I'm here because I've always dreamed of being a paleoanthropologist and learning all I can about humans and our evolution. I want to study human evolution at a different angle from traditional anthropology. I want to focus on human ancestors, evolutionary anatomy of those ancestors, and the details of their locomotion." Welcome to Mizzou Integrative Anatomy Mara!
