Missouri Right to Life and National Right to Life Respond to Pro-Abortion President Joe Biden Stripping Protective Hyde Amendment From Budget Proposal

Missouri Right to Life supports the statements to protect innocent human lives made by Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft. Senators Paul Wieland and Bob Onder are fighting for simple amendments to ensure Missourians do not have to pay for abortion drugs or send our tax dollars to abortion providers. These amendments are narrowly focused. The Wieland amendment includes a limited number of drugs. And the Onder amendment is to ensure Missourians tax dollars do not go to abortion ...providers for abortion. These amendments are needed in response to the anti-life ruling of the Missouri Supreme Court last year that said we can’t do this in a budget bill anymore. With super-majorities in the House and Senate, this should not be difficult. The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to review the Mississippi 15-week abortion ban during it's next term, which begins in October. This is potentially the most consequential case to be heard since the Casey decision in 1992. Missouri Right to Life works diligently to save innocent human lives at every stage of development. While we support the finding of a vaccine for the COVID 19 pandemic, we are encouraging our political leaders to ensure that any vaccine will be produced through ethical research. Missouri Right to Life will not support a vaccine using any part of aborted babies. Research has shown that ethical means, with respect for all lives, both born and unborn, show more promise for cures, therapies and treatments and that is where we should be focusing our public monies.

The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral argument yesterday on the enforceability of Missouri's bans on abortions as set out in HB126. Yesterday's argument focused on the ban on abortions on babies diagnosed with Downs Syndrome. We thank Solicitor General John Sauer and Attorney General Eric Schmitt for their testimony and witness in this case. Please pray that the court upholds all of the bans set out in the statute, especially the ban at 8 weeks gestation when the baby's heart is beating.
