Our own Amy Wildhaber, MSN, RN, director of operations and support services at MBSH, was interviewed for an article that recently ran in The Missourian. She, along with representatives from two other area hospitals, discussed the current rate of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations in Missouri as well as the importance of vaccination. According to Wildhaber, MBSH is at full capacity with approximately 57 percent of inpatients sick with the virus. However, the BJC HealthC...are system is seeing fewer cases and hospitalizations. Wildhaber said a big issue during this wave has been difficulty transferring patients in need of specific medical care only found at a larger hospital, although being part of the BJC HealthCare system helped those transitions. The other two hospitals' representatives shared these same concerns. To read the article, click here: http://ow.ly/PBhL50HEQag

Are you concerned about your child's hearing? Here are some questions to ask yourself: -Have your child's grades started slipping in school? -Does your child want the TV volume louder than other members of the family? -Does your child ask 'what?' or say 'huh?' more often than he/she used to?... If you answered 'yes' to any of the above questions, now may be a good time to get your child's hearing checked. This Friday, January 21, 2021, the St. Louis Children's Hospital mobile audiology van will be onsite at the Specialty Clinic behind Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital from 9am to 4:15pm, providing pediatric patients with an opportunity to have their hearing evaluated. The mobile unit serves children from birth to 21 years old, who are at risk for hearing difficulties or diagnosed with hearing impairment. It operates year-round, Monday through Friday, traveling throughout a three-hour radius of St. Louis. It will be available at Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital on the first and third Fridays of every month. *Please note: appointments are required. If you're interested in making an appointment, talk to your child's pediatrician for a referral or call (314) 454-6171, press option 2 and then option 1

Not all heroes wear capes. Our frontline caregivers and health care staff have been working hard throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to help treat and care for us. They are our heroes. If you recently had an exceptional experience with one of our employees at MBSH or one of our clinics, please consider nominating that person for our Patient Choice Award. It's a simple gesture that can make someone's day. And there's no better time to show our health care heroes how much we appreciate them.

Because they come in so many different designs and styles, cloth masks are not considered as reliable in protecting against COVID-19 as medical-grade masks. For that reason we strongly recommended our visitors wear medical-grade masks when they enter our facilities. If you do not have one, we will provide one for you. We are taking all the steps we can to protect our patients and staff and appreciate the support of those who need to come to the hospital during this latest surge.

As we experience extraordinary volumes, we recognize the need to keep our patients and families safe, as well as the importance of offering bedside support to loved ones. Starting Monday, visitors for COVID patients will be restricted to 1 designated visitor throughout the course of their hospital stay. This is a temporary restriction to help keep our facilities safe as we move through this surge.
