MISSOURI’S COMPLEX FENCE LAWS TO BE EXPLAINED A program to discuss Missouri’s Complicated Fence Law will be held on Monday evening, February 12th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.. The meeting will be held at Macon County Extension Center, 404 N Missouri St, Suite B, Macon. There is a $25 charge for the first person and $15 for each additional person from the same operation and that covers the program and materials. Pre-registration is recommended as space is limited. Missouri con...tinues to have a very complicated fence law, in large part due to the fact that 2 separate laws cover the state depending on the county that your land is in according to Joe Koenen, Agricultural Business Specialist with University of Missouri Extension who will be presenting the program that night. If you own land you really need to know the law and how it impacts you whether you own livestock or not. Furthermore, in 2016 a portion of the law was changed to address livestock liability that affects livestock and non-livestock owners alike said Joe. Other problems are that both laws are subject to interpretation and can be a little different, depending on the county you are in. A comparison of both laws will be given at this program. Joe has been presenting programs on the fence law for over 25 years throughout the state, including via Skype and ITV. Landowners need to be aware of what the law is in their county and this meeting will help them better understand their rights and responsibilities. This program will be done via Zoom so attendees can see the presentation and also ask questions of the presenter. It allows the presenter to talk to several folks in a wide area without traveling to each location. Contact Darla Campbell at the Schuyler County Extension Office (660-457-3469) if you have any questions or would like to register or you can e-mail her at [email protected].. See more

Macon County: I had a young lady reach out to me wanting to introduce a program called "Keep Your Keys" . Would any business or church be interested in the following: We travel across the state talking to seniors about driving. Our program, Keep Your Keys, has been well received in the senior centers, churches, and libraries. We travel to the counties that are most at-risk (based on our trauma registry stats) for seniors involved in crashes. Our objective for the Keep You...r Keys program is to keep seniors on the road as long and as safe as possible. This presentation is fully grant funded, so there is no cost to having us travel to present the program. We discuss: * medications and how they may impact or impair driving * the need for everyone to have a retirement plan as many driving retirements can happen without any warning (broken leg, hip, etc) * how pre-planning can diminish feelings of isolation and depression that are typical with driving retirement * general rules of the road w/ focus on new car technologies and road updates (j turns and roundabouts) * seniors involved in crashes typically have more extensive injuries due to the fact that their bodies are more fragile * short video w/ info from trauma surgeons, geriatric doctors, etc. that provide more info on the aging body * tips on how to stay healthy cognitively, visually, etc. * what to do in case of a crash * safe driving checklists to assess own driving skills and abilities We cover a lot of information in a short time frame we are usually wrapping up in 30 minutes. Those in attendance will get a Keep Your Keys Booklet that covers everything that we go over in the slide show. They also receive a goody bag with an umbrella (in spring), ice scraper (in winter), pen, keychain, Transportation Planning sheet, File of Life medication keeper, etc. Please contact me at: 660-385-2173 if you wish to host this event!

MoDOT NEWS RELEASE A winter weather system will enter the state Wednesday morning bringing a potential for a wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet, snow, and rain mixed with snow throughout the day and into Friday. This is a slow-moving front and will produce a variety of precipitation over the next three days. Travelers are urged to remain vigilant and keep informed of rapidly changing weather conditions. With the intermittent periods of liquid and freezing precipitation thro...ughout the day, motorists might become complacent about their safety and assume roads are only wet. Be advised that the transition from rain to ice may come quickly and without warning, creating hazardous road conditions in a matter of seconds. Use caution through the duration of this winter event and don’t drive distracted. Buckle Up Phone Down. Because of the complicated nature of this wintry mix, treating ahead of the storm may not be practical. Forecasted rain could wash salt and chemicals off road surfaces before they could be effective. Drivers should use extreme caution on Wednesday’s commutes as road conditions could deteriorate rapidly wherever freezing precipitation is falling. It only takes a little bit of ice to create slippery roads. If you are involved in a crash or slide-off, the safest thing to do is to stay inside your vehicle with your seat belt on. To check road conditions, go to MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map at http://traveler.modot.org/map/. The map is also available as a free app for Apple and Android devices. MoDOT also provides road condition information through its Customer Service Center. Dial 888-ASK-MODOT (888-275-6636) to speak with a customer service representative 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
