What's your mountain? Where is the place God has given you to tell the good news of His coming to earth, His everlasting Kingdom, His beautiful gospel, and His promise to come again? Maybe your mountain is your kitchen table. Maybe it's your workplace. Your carpool group. Your book club. Your monthly neighborhood block party. The 20 minutes you have with your Uber driver. Two hours at 30,000 feet with your chatty airplane seat partner. A brief moment with your Starbucks baris...ta when you notice she looks tired and worn down. Mountains, ripe for proclaiming the gospel, are everywhere. What's yours? In the midst of rampant commercialism, angry mob shoppers, and rudeness to employees who are just trying to make it through the holidays, you get to bring living water, news of life abundant, a hope beyond tacky lights and Christmas trees. Read that again, slowly. Let it roll around your mind, capture your heart, bring you to wonder, to awe, to deep delight. The Word became FLESH and DWELT among us. As artist Scott Erickson stunningly says, "attached by a placenta for nourishment and life" within a woman (Mary) that God Himself created. Ten fingers, ten toes. Skin as soft as velvet, protruding belly after a full milk meal, and thighs chunkier by the day. Gangly limbs and acne as the years went by. Sprouting chi...n hairs, and chest hairs, and upper lip hairs. Jewish skin darkening further in the sun as he built chairs, and tables, and benches. Into our world of pain and mess and beauty and expectation, the true Tabernacle of God came down, sharing the dirt and the dust of our days. We have SEEN His GLORY. Not in the same way that John did, or Peter, or Levi, but we still see-- as we read His word, as He changes us by the power of His Holy Spirit, sanctifying us into new people day by day, as we see Him move in the lives of those we love who know Him. One degree of glory to the next. And this glory is Christ's glory, the only Son of the Father. And one day we shall behold His glory in full. The day is coming, friends. We shall be with Him, and we shall be like Him! Full of GRACE and TRUTH. Love with skin on, Jesus Christ, our reality. God with us. Grace and truth, fully. Never one without the other.
