Parenting In An Age Of Uncertainty: Self-Care and Modeling for your Teens on Friday @ 1300 Speaker: Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg Dr. Ginsburg is a pediatrician specializing in Adolescent Medicine at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and Co-Founder and Director of Programs at Center for Parent and Teen Communication. His research over the last 30 years has focused on facilitating youth to develop their own solutions to social problems and to teach clinicians how to better serve them. He co- developed the Teen-Centered Method, a mixed qualitative/quantitative methodology that enables youth to generate, prioritize, and explain their own ideas. Dr. Ginsburg has more than 200 publications, including 42 original research articles, clinical practice articles, eight parenting books, and a multimedia toolkit for professionals. . His most recent books are, "Building Resilience in Children and Teens: Giving Kids Roots and Wings," and Raising Kids to Thrive: Balancing Love with Expectations and Protection with Trust, both published by The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).The AAP has also published a multimedia toolkit Reaching Teens: Strength-Based, Trauma-sensitive, Resilience-building Communication Strategies Rooted in Positive Youth Development that offers up to 95 continuing education credits for youth serving professionals. Dr. Ginsburg has received over 50 awards recognizing his research, clinical skills, writing, or advocacy efforts. These include The Young Investigator Award and a visiting professorship from The Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine, The Lindback Award for distinguished teaching from The University of Pennsylvania, and The Humanism in Medicine Award given to the Penn faculty member who demonstrates the highest standards of compassion and empathy in the delivery of care to patients. He has been named one of Philadelphia magazine’s Top Docs twelve times. Dr. Ginsburg lectures widely to national and international parent and professional audiences.

D. Senior Program Analyst Military Community & Family Policy for the Department of Defense Dr. Bird has served military family programs for 20 years as a caregiver, program coordinator, director, major command specialist and deputy branch chief in Japan, United States and Germany. Dr. Bird credits the Central Boys & Girls Club for solidifying her passion to inspire youth to be life-long learners, as she is. Lieutenant General Leslie C. Smith currently serves as The Inspector General, Office of the Secretary of the Army. He graduated from Georgia Southern University as a distinguished military graduate with a bachelor's degree in accounting, and commissioned a Lieutenant by the United States Army. LTG Smith also holds a Master of Science degree in administration from Central Michigan University and a Master of Arts degree in national security strategy from the National Defense University. LT Gen is a BGCA alum, where he learned to play basketball, how to swim, and acquired life skills that directly impacted his long-term success. Smith frequently visits Clubs to speak to young people about leadership skills and community service.

The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) is launching a series of free virtual college fairs this fall. Each fair has over 600 colleges and is truly national. These fairs feature free college information sessions and have skilled counselors available to answer questions. NACAC also has strict standards for participating institutions that insure the organizations offer strong educational value.
