The next phase of the spinner project was to accurately locate the 3 holes for the blades. Much harder than it looks. In order to project a 2D sketch to a 3D surface, I cnc cut a guide which matched the contour of the spinner allowing me to trace the hole pattern for all 3 blades. Then I needed to design the cut lines which make the spacer behind the blade. Because this race prop is full feathering, it had to be possible to remove the spinner regardless of the shut down position of the blade. That meant another cutting template. More late nights on the Super Legacy spinner design. I made another change to the blade hole shape after I was able to verify the entire blade rotation angle, including feathered. Out with the old and in with the new. My old Bridgeport vise that came with my vertical mill has been OK but I've always wanted to replace it with something that was just a bit tighter tolerance. I made these cabin air manifolds the old fashion way for a change. I didn't even touch the computer for once. It was great! Really love this 3oz carbon I picked up from @compositeenvisions a while back. It's great for tight corners and wrapping organic shaped non-structural parts. Perfect for these little manifolds to convert the naca duct into a 2" tube for fresh air on the instrument panel vents. #lancair360 #lancair #homebuiltaircraft #carbonfiber #composite

I guess I'm in a sharing mood. This is Spinner version 5 for the Super Legacy project. I think I've finally fixed all my issues from previous versions. I feel like I had to push my CAD abilities pretty hard on this last version. The second photo shows the new bulkhead design layed over the 3D scan of the hub with the blades in 2 positions. The full feathering blades really complicated everything. I'm searching for a new material to cnc cut female molds out of. I've never used tooling board before, but it seems like it would be promising, albeit expensive. Can anyone recommend anything other than insulation foam or mdf? #3dscan #autodeskinventor #superlegacy #lancair

Epic day on the computer today. Here is the instrument panel design for the Lancair 360 project I'm working on. I'll try to explain each step. 1. Cockpit photo with targets applied 2. Here is another example of scan to cad to reality I did last week. The firewall insulation is a rather tricky part to cut out by hand. I scanned it, designed the the part, cnc cut the foam and installed it on the firewall.

It's been a while since I've done anything with Unleashed, my Lancair 360. My last flight was November of 2019 with the old engine. I just got the new Lycoming IO-390 from @pinnacle_aircraft_engines built from some of the parts from the old 400. Loving the paint job that's for sure. I need to tidy up a few things on the firewall before I hang the 390 but it should be a bolt on with all my plenum parts, cowl, exhaust, etc. Now I just need to make the time to do it. #lancair #lycoming #experimental #homebuiltaircraft

Why make 1 when you can Copy->Paste and get 2 for the low price of twice the machining time. :) This is another double sided tool path so I can get a truly 3D part that will be used as a plug to make one out of carbon fiber.
