Q: Will I still need to wear a mask after I’m vaccinated? A: Yes. While both vaccines are more than 94% effect at reducing the chances of contracting COVID-19, data is still being collected on the likelihood of becoming an asymptomatic carrier and transmitting the illness to others. At KC Shepherd’s Center, we’re working to advocate for vaccine access for homebound older adults in Missouri and Kansas. For more information about the COVID-19 vaccines, visit the CDC website: https://www.cdc.gov//2019-nc/vaccines/keythingstoknow.html

Q: Are side effects normal after receiving the vaccine? A: Yes. Those who have received the vaccine have reported temporary side effects including injection-site pain, muscle aches, joint pain, fever, chills and headache. At KC Shepherd’s Center, we’re working to advocate for vaccine access for homebound older adults in Missouri and Kansas. Happy Halloween from all of us here at the KC Shepherds Center! Did you know Halloween in 2020 will have the first full moon since 2001- watch out for werewolves! Here are 10 Halloween History Fun Facts: ... 1. The history of Halloween goes back more than 2,000 years. 2. Halloween originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, a pagan religious tradition. 3. People would light bonfires and wear unconventional costumes to ward off ghosts. 4. According to the history.com, "in the eighth century Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints. Soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain". 5. The evening before All Saints Day was known as 'All Hallows Eve', and later Halloween. 6. For countries in the northern latitudes, the day marked the end of summer and the beginning of cold, dark winter when deaths and disease were common. 7. Over the centuries, the nature of Halloween celebrations changed. Today, Halloween is synonymous with children getting into spooky costumes and asking for 'trick or treat'. 8. The 'treat' is mostly some form of candy or chocolate that are given to children and 'trick' refers to a threat - usually an idle one - if something nice is not given. 9. 'Trick or treat' is said to have been derived from ancient Irish and Scottish practices. According to the history.com, in Ireland, people would put on costumes and go from door-to-door and singing songs to the dead. They received cakes as payment. 10. The origin of pumpkin carving also goes back to an Irish myth. Pumpkin carving is a must-do activity during Halloween and this year, amid the coronavirus pandemic, it's a great time to enjoy pumpkin carving with your family at home. See more
