National Vietnam War Veterans Day is March 29, marking the day U.S. Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, disestablished on March 29, 1973. This is the fourth anniversary of the day and second year in a row events will be largely virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic. TKF is launching the Food for Vets program tomorrow. Partnering with the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry, the goal is to help feed 60 veteran families. Each family will get ~10 days of food to feed their household. Once a veteran is in the system they will be able to get food on a monthly basis. House Passes Bill Allowing All Veterans, Caregivers to Get Vaccinated at VA It is unclear how quickly the department could distribute the vaccine, but the measure would dramatically expand the scope of who the VA can vaccinate to include all caregivers of veterans enrolled in various VA programs, and veterans living abroad who rely on the Foreign Medical Program. There are about 9 million veterans enrolled in VA care, but there are 18 million total U.S. veterans, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. http://ow.ly/UsQx50E084y

COVID may have impacted us from holding the 3rd annual Veteran Warmup event, but it didn't stop us from still being able to provide services and items to those Veterans in need. The Kaufman fund still made sure that at least 100 homeless Veterans will receive brand new winter coats, hats, gloves and socks with our partner St Patrick’s Center distributing them through their case workers who help these Veterans. The St Louis Rotary Club has been a valuable contributing sponsor the past two years. The winter clothing received helps make sure that these homeless Veterans will be healthy and safe through the cold winter months.

Since 2014 The Kaufman Fund has given away 2,500 Christmas Trees and Stands to St. Louis Veterans at no cost to them, to help them and their families celebrate the holiday season. TKF Legal Program Update Thanks to all of our Attorneys hard work, we have assisted close to 70 Veterans so far this year, with a referral rate of nearly 84%. During the COVID crisis, landlord tenant attorneys rapidly responded to 7 cases in April and May, and helped Veterans stay in their homes during the pandemic. The average income of the Veterans we assist is about $18,000 a year. From wills and estate planning, to dissolutions of marriages, and civil litigation, our att...orneys are helping our community's Veterans through some of the most trying moments of their lives. Christmas Trees for Vets Annually Trees for Vets gives over 300 Christmas trees and stands, free of charge, to Veterans and their families to enjoy the Christmas Holiday Season. Since this program began we have partnered with several businesses wanting to help fund and increase the Christmas holiday season for our veterans. Over 1,400 trees have been given to deserving families and we intend to continue this program. Any funds collected that exceed the tree expenses are do...nated to the local charities we support. There are a limited number of trees available, and the Veterans selected, will be sent a CONFIRMATION LETTER and told the time to arrive to pick up their trees. We're still a go for Golf - October 6, 2020! Early bird registration has been extended till September 15th!! Registration can be done on your mobile device instead of in-person if you so choose. All bidding at the tournament will be done on a mobile bidding app that requires only an email address and credit card. ... Golfers will ride two per cart with a clear plastic partition in between them. The entire event will be held outside so that social distancing guidelines can be followed. This year's lunch will be a boxed lunch instead of our normal buffet set up. Cocktails after golf will be outside near the pavilion area Dinner will remain a buffet, however it will be served by the Whitmoor staff Payment for all auction items, etc will be done via cell phone, not in-person, unless requested. The Golf Tournament is traditionally our largest fundraising event of the year, but you don't have to attend our golf event this year to help us serve Veteran's needs. Many local Veterans and children still depend on The Kaufman Fund. If you're unable to play this year, or aren't comfortable do so during the current environment, you can still help out. COVID-19 has had a great impact on so many, and we at www.thekaufmanfund.org are not immune. Our Dental Program is currently on hold as dentists have been shut down and not taking any new Veterans for treatment. Our Legal Program however, which provides primarily pro bono legal work by one of our over 40 attorneys has been operating remotely. We've been able to take almost 50 new cases during this time!... TKF's Mental Health Collaborative is also operational, and all providers have been doing patient care remotely during this time! The Golf Tournament fundraiser, has been rescheduled for October 6th, and with some changes to allow us to hold it safely. Mark your calendars! Our Casino Night event scheduled for May 1st was cancelled for this year and will resume next year. Veteran Warm-Up, held on Veterans Day is still planned and details are TBD. We give at least 100 Veterans brand new winter clothing to get them through the season safely. TKF Trees for Vets will be on December 13th this year. We still anticipate giving away at least 300 Free Christmas Trees & stands to deserving Veteran families. TKF is honored to be partnered with Leftovers, also a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, who will be offering FREE school supplies for the children of our Veterans. In addition, Leftovers, etc. will also be offering a program for the families of our Veterans including craft classes, parties, wacky holiday classes, dance and music classes at a special, low rate. This offer is open to ALL Veterans and their families. The program becomes effective immediately. Registrati...on is needed to participate in this program. The Kaufman Fund is honored to receive this plaque from 'Got Your Six Support Dogs', in appreciation of our continued support. TKF is grateful to our many supporters so that we are able to help organizations like this, whose mission is to provide PTSD service dogs to veterans.
