A revolutionary time is beginning in Washington and Kamala Harris isn't the only woman stepping into power with Biden stepping into his role as President of the United States. Biden's daughter is quite the activist and is already an outstanding feminist role model. Check out the girl who will be filling Ivanka Trumps' shoes in the next term! https://www.tatler.com/article/ashley-biden-first-daughter

It’s Phenomenal Feminist Friday! And today we choose Mindy Kaling. Today is Abbie’s favorite feminist. She states: One of my favorite feminist icons is Mindy Kaling. She is one of the writers and actors in hit shows like The Office and The Mindy Project. She is phenomenal because she is solely herself and doesn’t feel the need to let Hollywood dictate how she should be. She stands up for women’s rights and believes that to be a feminist, you don’t have to fit into certain... boxes. She says in an interview with New York Minute Magazine that You can be whoever it is that you are at heart and still be an amazing feminist. She says that she often gets applauded for being able to write with all the men writers and be as good as they are but states that this is insulting because woman are always capable of doing any job they want. I really admire her as a person, a writer, a comedian, a feminist, and all the other things she brings to the table. See more

"We love you and we are counting on you" is just a snippet from this video letter by Native youth to their parents and other voters, encouraging them to "vote with love". Love for each other and love for the earth. Tomorrow is election day, as well as the third day in November, Native American Heritage Month. Did you know that while Native people received citizenship in 1924, Natives did not have the right to vote in every state until 1962? Even then, there were many things ...that impacted, and continue to impact, their ability to vote. When November comes around, Native people are mentioned more so than usual. They are normally referred to in the context of Thanksgiving and are too often spoken about only in the past tense. We urge you to educate yourselves on current Native issues and consider them year round, in the present tense. And of course, we encourage you to vote with love.

UMKC Women's Center 07.08.2020

Many members of the Native community are speaking out against CNN's use of the term "Something Else" to categorize Native voters in an exit poll. It is important to keep fighting for Native visibility, no one wants to be called "Something Else". Read more here: https://najanewsroom.com//naja-demands-cnn-apologize-for-/

Tamara Lukic was a refugee of the Yugoslavian Civil War in 1995. In her early twenties, the age most of us are at right now, her entire world imploded. She was no longer studying, working, going to bars. Her home was suddenly a warzone. She no longer thought about where she would spend her next weekend, but rather if her boyfriend will be drafted, if her friends will be killed on the street. But she did not lay down and accept defeat. She kept her head up and did what she ha...d to do. During the war, she found out she was pregnant. Now a mother, her instincts kicked in. She did whatever she could to keep her family safe. At the first chance she got, she held her baby in one hand, her husband’s hand in the other, and with only a bag of clothes and the equivalent of $20 in her pocket, she boarded a plane to America. Tamara knew not one word of English, but that did not stop her. She gritted her teeth and worked any and every job she could. She made ends meet so that her child could have everything she needed. She raised her girls to know they could do absolutely anything and that they were a lot stronger than they thought.
