Manor House Kitchen in Richmond Heights, MO. The former Montana residents wanted to create a gathering spot for family that provided access to the pool and an outdoor entertaining area. The original kitchen was too small with no connection to the backyard. After many design directions, it was ultimately decided that less is more and a kitchen/ living addition with outdoor patio would suffice. The architect felt that the scale of the addition needed to be integrated like a man...or house kitchen to compliment the manor house quality of the home. Matching the brick and clay tile roof were the first steps, but creating a form that was simple but had some pizzazz became the design goal. The design of the hipped dormer meant the ceiling could come to life. The slope of the roof is mirrored in the folds of the kitchen ceiling adding dimension and texture to the space. The window configuration at the sink wall and above let natural light fill the space and allow shadows make the space feel as if it is always changing. Double the kitchen space and a wonderful living room space meant room for family and friends. Access to the covered patio with a dual-sided fireplace complete the home as summer and fall months are spent there . The original kitchen serves as the mudroom and the connection between old and new is through a butler’s pantry area with beautiful cased openings. We are very excited to have another JG Design Studio project featured on the Webster Holiday House Tour. Following the total loss of their house due to a fire we needed to get them back under shelter- fast! Faced with a lot of decisions and having to muster a lot of patience the Millers are now home! Justin W Miller & Amy Garrett Miller are both a testament to poise under pressure. Happy Holidays!

This third floor attic in a Webster Groves historic home was in need of some sprucing up! The architect wanted to create a relaxing space that would make guests and family feel like they were in a treetop getaway. An existing HVAC closet situated in the middle of the space blocked the light and made furniture arrangement a struggle. With an angled ceiling and a longish, narrow space, there were some challenges to putting the sweet into this renovated guest suite. Relocating t...he HVAC unit meant room for a new larger pair of windows inside what would become the sleeping nook (flanked by two walk-in closets). This half of the space is wrapped in extra-wide custom, ship-lap paneling floor to ceiling and draws your eye to the treetop view and the dappled light that streams into the room. The custom ship-lap millwork and flush closet doors minimize the aesthetic and allow for a streamlined look. Built-in bookcases and bedside shelves also serve to provide plenty of well thought-out storage while maintaining clean lines. The existing closet is now a walk-in linen closet, perfect for keeping essentials for the third floor. The bathroom incorporates the ship-lap and built-in feel as it wraps the walls and ceiling and ties in with the vanity. The small space includes a wall hung toilet, large custom shower and tile work giving the space a very organized yet pleasant feel. Working in mainly black and white finishes, the designer's added personal touches along with the seasonal changes of the outdoors provide nice color and warmth to this guest retreat. See more

Beautiful Ranch Redux in Webster Groves The homeowners bought this 3 bedroom ranch with the dream of making it their own. It needed an updated kitchen and master bathroom but had great bones. Its main floor was lacking natural light and the main spaces were not ideal for entertaining. Check out these after photos, then check out the before photos, and then go back to the afters! Sometimes basic design moves (like opening a wall or relocating a door) make all the difference in a home's transformation. Thanks to contractor Dave Molner of Molner Homes for a terrific end result. photos by Documodern
