Hello, all, and welcome! This page is an invitation to discover and learn about the various "take a book, leave a book" library bins scattered all across town! Books that don't have a due date or require a library card to access are open to the public in many neighborhoods, and soon, many local parks! This helps bridge the gap for people who either cannot get to, or simply don't enjoy visiting, the public library. ... You can also bring books to the bins that you'd like to pass along to others! This is a great way to share stories and knowledge that you enjoyed while making room on your shelf for more! Jefferson City is already home to several bins, some of which are officially registered with the Little Free Library project, all of which are provided and maintained by local community members. Earlier this Spring, I visited a few of those bins. I found that they had been long-forgotten and were in desperate need of some love and attention, so I contacted Parks and Rec, as they were on park property. After learning that the student once maintaining them had grown and moved on, we worked together on a plan to refurbish and restock these bins for the public and I volunteered to steward them. What started as a plan to refresh four of them has unfolded into a goal of gradually placing one in nearly every park in town! We started this work right before COVID-19 hit. Of course, the new climate of social interaction and the extra safety concerns that came with the sudden changes put us on pause for a while, but we are finally able to begin setting things in motion. Newly-constructed and painted bins will be springing up in many places by the end of the fall, so check back here for updates about where to find them!
