Chapter 8 (continued) : A Hub for Community: Live Music and Other Events A diverse customer base possessing myriad talents, interests and callings has graced our space through the past 30 years here on Broadway. We have infinite gratitude for those who have brought us such a delicious soup of experiences. Today, we are sharing a couple of fliers from Hindu celebrations, a kirtan and a puja, hosted here in the early 2000’s, along with a few photos from the puja in honor of L...ord Shiva. Personally, it has been a lifelong fascination to me, Fran, to learn about the spiritual and religious observations of others and especially, the commonalities of goodness and caring for others. Growing up, I was raised as a Methodist and attended Catholic and Jewish services with friends from school. Since then, through It’s a Beautiful Day, we have had opportunity to befriend a Tibetan Buddhist refugee, (at age 4, Champa was carried across the mountains on his father’s back),and host monks of the 20th century Ananda Marga sect (who deny themselves luxury - even beds. and hot water. We have attended Sufi dances and the annual Rumi Urs, had conversation with Rastafarians, Nigerian priests, Nichiren buddhists, Sikh muslims and so many more coming through this doorway.
