I enjoy these vintage schoolgirl portraits from Hutch's new inventory so much I had to post them again on their own. To the humble craft painters of the world who have long since past - your work lives on in strange and wonderful splendor.

To the Digon Family, whomever you are/were, I am happy to now own and have at Hutch Mercantile these great tombstone salt-and-pepper shakers, "Here Lies Salt" and "Here Lies Pepper," gifted by you on June 5, 1955. Thank you for seeing the humor in them.

Made from reclaimed cherry, ash and walnut, with beautiful details like match-booked floating tenons and tapered edges, they are wonderfully handmade and affordable. Also at Hutch is this super pair of folk-art school girl paintings on wood panel from the 1940's, back when life was all about kittens, schoolbooks, dolls, bows and curls.
