During a conversation with one of our partner agencies yesterday, they were reiterating how kind, patient, and compassionate our entire team was for their families and why that was so important. These tiny interactions we have with people are like "doses of healing." She reminded us that "having positive interactions with people helps to heal trauma." While it meant a lot to hear how our amazing team assisted their families with more than just furniture, it is a gentle remind...er for all of us that our interactions with each other can also help heal trauma. #trauma #mentalhealth #healing #FurnitureBank #FurnishHope #mentalhealthawareness #therapy #recovery

We’re so excited to host our first Earth Day Donation Drive next Saturday, April 24th from 10am-2pm with our friends at Encore Consignment Gallery - Kirkwood! We’ll have a truck ready to accept drop off donations small and large. Also, if you shop at either location Encore location, a portion of your sale will be donated to us!

We had a team meeting to talk about something very exciting... having our families return to in-person shopping! We’re excited to have clients back in the warehouse, but we’re gonna make sure we do it safely. Stay tuned for some exciting announcements!

Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served. We stand united in respect for our veterans. This holiday started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country's service and was originally called Armistice Day. It fell on Nov. 11 because that is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. However, in 1954, the holiday was changed to "Veterans Day" in order to account for all veterans in all wars. ...The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) states that the nation’s homeless veterans are predominantly male, with roughly 9% being female. The majority are single; live in urban areas; and suffer from mental illness, alcohol and/or substance abuse, or co-occurring disorders. About 11% of the adult homeless population are veterans. At Home Sweet Home we have partnered with the Veterans Administration, Hope Recovery Center and the Domiciliary Care for Homeless Veterans Program (DCHV). Happy Birthday to Home Sweet Home's Admin & Finance Coordinator, Julie! We asked Julie to share her favorite Home Sweet Home memory. "It was a special day at HSH when I helped our Client Services Coordinator, Kristin, shop for a client. I spent too much time trying to pick out matching items for their bathroom! It was great seeing all of the wonderful things that were going to the client. This is one special place!"
