#Homefact Did you know that cracks in stucco surfaces can provide a pathway for moisture and water to enter into a wall system? Water that gets behind stucco will soften the material it comes in contact with and can eventually lead to additional problems, such as paint failure, wood rot, mold growth, musty smell, swollen drywall and irreparable damage. However, once a crack has formed it's important (and fairly easy) to repair it with caulk, a caulking gun, and a wet rag to... wipe away any excess caulk in the process. Most users just paint the wall afterwards as this is likely the easiest method and most cost effective one to use as a finishing touch. Have you checked your walls for cracks recently?

#Homefact Another important aspect of spring cleaning can also extend to your outdoor foundation vents. A house with a crawl space has vents along the foundation walls. The vents provide air circulation that helps prevent excess moisture and mold growth, and they prevent critters from entering in as well. However, the screens can easily collect leaves and other debris from fall and winter seasons. Your spring cleaning can be a great time to not only clean them but also to check for any damage, because even the smallest of pests can intrude with minor damage to work with!

#Homefact When water freezes during the winter, it expands and can cause your pipes to damage and even burst as a result. In order to prevent your home from experiencing frozen pipes, it's best to insulate the pipes that are near windows, doors and in areas of the home that are unheated as these areas can experience temperature fluctuation due to drafts and weather change more frequently than other areas of the home. #Pipes #Winter

To better understand the scale of radon in America, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been collecting the data to identify areas of the U.S. with the potential for elevated indoor radon levels since 1993. The Map of Radon Zones was developed using data on indoor radon measurements, geology, aerial radioactivity, soil parameters, and foundation types. In this chart the levels are categorized by 3 zones:... - Zone 1 (Red): Counties with predicted average indoor radon screening levels greater than 4 pCi/L - Zone 2 (Orange): Counties with predicted average indoor radon screening levels from 2 to 4 pCi/L - Zone 3 (Yellow): Counties with predicted average indoor radon screening levels less than 2 pCi/L If your radon level is 4 picocuries per liter (pCi/L) or higher then your home needs to be fixed MUCH sooner than later. Consider fixing if your level is between 2 and 4 pCi/L. To learn more about your area, visit https://bit.ly/3pnLhj5 to find your city on the radon map! #RadonMonth

The "footer" of a house is the only part that physically touches the earth and is designed to spread the weight of the house over larger areas. This helps to support a homes foundation and prevent a home from settling. Thanks Inspector Brad Lowery for giving us a glimpse! #NewHomeConstruction

#Homefact Exhaust fans are designed to help rid your home of foul odors and moisture. However, did you know that if the fans are not effective then the risk for mold growth becomes high and can even become concerning? It's recommended that homeowners should remove and clean their bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans at least once a year as this helps to keep the hardware running smoothly over time and the moisture out of the home longer. #Fans #LoveMyHouse

#Homefact While it's common that many homes have reliable splash blocks underneath their gutter downspouts, not all homeowners understand the significance of positioning! Most splash blocks are meant to have the open end pointing away from the building and the closed end against the exterior wall. This is to lead the water away from the building to preserve its foundation, compared to the reverse in which water gathering in the splash block can become detrimental to your property over time! #Splashblocks

Cracks in concrete will happen over time, however, vertical displacement or the concrete heaving of slabs and foundations can pose as a serious threat to a home. This happens when moisture causes the soil underneath the slab to expand, which can come from rainwater, broken sewer pipes, ground water, poor surface drainage, etc. How is your home’s foundation? When in doubt, get a professional opinion! Visit https://bit.ly/3cyCjIB to schedule your appointment today!

#Homefact Did you know that changing the rotation of your ceiling fans twice a year can increase energy efficiency? When you change the direction of the fan, it changes the direction the air moves. This will more effectively heat or cool down a room which can save you money on your energy bills over time! You want your ceiling fan to rotate counterclockwise in the cooling seasons (Spring, Summer), because it pushes cool air down. Clockwise rotation redistributes warm air upward during the heating seasons (Autumn, Winter) for quicker warmth and less strain on your heating/cooling systems. #Ceilingfans
