Water that gets behind stucco will soften the material it comes in contact with and can eventually lead to additional problems, such as paint failure, wood rot, mold growth, musty smell, swollen drywall and irreparable damage. However, once a crack has formed it's important (and fairly easy) to repair it with caulk, a caulking gun, and a wet rag to... wipe away any excess caulk in the process.
