Govardhan Puja, or Annakuta, is a festival celebrating the pastime of Lord Krishna lifting Govardhan hill on His little finger and holding it aloft for seven days to protect the residents of Vrindavan from torrential rains sent by Indra. A small replica of the Hill made from sweets and other edibles will be offered to the Lord in the temple, and after an ecstatic kirtan and circumambulation the remnants will be distributed as prashad. HAPPY KARTIK! Kartik, also known as the month of Damodara, is a month for deepening one's love for Krishna. It is considered by devotees of Krishna to be the holiest month of the year. During this month, devotees make extra vows, perform extra spiritual activities, and generally worship Krishna in His form as a young boy, Damodara, who was once bound at the waist by His mother, Yashoda, as a punishment for His mischievous childhood pastimes.

WITHOUT FEAR: One must be fully convinced that Krsna or the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His localized aspect as Paramatma is always within, that He is seeing everything and He always knows what one intends to do. One must thus have firm conviction that Krsna as Paramatma will take care of a soul surrendered to Him. "I shall never be alone," one should think. "Even if I live in the darkest regions of a forest I shall be accompanied by Krsna, and He will give me all protection." That conviction is called abhayam, without fear. - From Srila Prabhupada's purport to Bhagavad-Gita, Chapter 16, Text 1-3.

GLANCE OF THE LORD Those Viu forms, by Their pure smiling, which resembled the increasing light of the moon, and by the sidelong glances of Their reddish eyes, created and protected the desires of Their own devotees, as if by the modes of passion and goodness. (SB 10.13.50) Those Viu forms blessed the devotees with Their clear glances and smiles, which resembled the increasingly full light of the moon (reya-kairava-candrik-vitaraam). As maintainers, They glanced upon Their devotees, embracing them and protecting them by smiling. Their smiles resembled the mode of goodness, protecting all the desires of the devotees, and the glancing of Their eyes resembled the mode of passion.
