Today, Governor Mike Parson will be sworn in on the steps of the Missouri State Capitol. This historic building has witnessed several such events since it was built just over 100 years ago; however, outdoor inaugurations were not always standard. On January 8, 1917, Governor Frederick Gardner was inaugurated in the first outdoor inauguration ceremony in Missouri history because facilities in the temporary Capitol were inadequate and plans to hold the swearing-in in one of the wings of the new building became controversial because of limited issuance of tickets. This was also the first year the inaugural ball was held at the Capitol. Previous events had been in the Governor’s Mansion. Have you ever attended the inauguration of a governor at our state capitol? If so, please share your pictures with us!

HCJ is ready to celebrate the holidays thanks for amazing local artist Leann Porrello! Leann was kind enough to do an original painting on the HCJ annex windows last weekend. We love the old lamp post she chose to include! Thank you Leann for making our town more beautiful during the holidays!
