Hazel Hill Farm 29.01.2021

A little something extra we have been working on and losing sleep over For years, we’ve dreamed of a space to host family and friends, to watch memories being made at both big(ish) events and on mundane Monday’s, to see people step away from routine and distractions and truly enjoy who they are with in that moment.... to feel at home at Hazel Hill! Often times smaller towns get a lotta flack for having nothing to do, I mean there’s only so many times you can go to a theat...er and bowling alley, right? What if you didn’t have to go to The City to experience something new and different? What if it was local? We’ve set our first event for May 1st and we’ve got some work to do between now and then, we’d love if you joined us on this crazy ride of an adventure. We will be sharing all the behind the scenes prep and planning, highs and lows that come with a start-up (sure to see some failures), as well as official event details, our new website and of course home projects on the farmhouse. Hang in there with us and if you are local please share with your people!

We back! Finally, got those shower doors in and the last 5% of the bathroom work done and we are marking this room off our list Rumor has it, Ms. Nellie Wells (first family that lived here) wanted to paint ALL the woodwork in the house but Wells Jr wouldn’t let her and compromised by letting her have the smallest room, this room, to do as she so pleased. This was the original pantry/breakfast room and was later turned into the main floor bathroom. As much as I loved the bu...ilt ins, they weren’t functional for our family or this space since it also doubles as Jon and I’s bathroom. #oldhousecon #nomasterbathroom I’m pretty proud of those baseboards Jon cut to match the other originals because after pricing them out, a quote of $2k-$3k had me saying, no, thank you! Also, that 120 year old window still going strong. To say they don’t make ‘em like they used to is an understatement, folks! #fixerupper #farmhouserestoration #farmhousebathroom #oldhouselove #overunderonwhenthoseglassbottlesbreak #noshameinthatsquattypottygame #doesanyonereadthese

Happy New Year, friends!! There were a few things this past year that didn’t go quite as we had hoped but the thing we will remember most from the year is getting to call this place ours. Here’s to a new year, with many of the same goals as last and a few more added in there for fun!

We are still working on removing wallpaper and repairing plaster walls so this is the only little corner of the house decorated inside and I’m okay with that. I saw another old house account mention how many Christmases their house has seen and it got me to thinking about ours. 120. 120 Christmases have been celebrated in this house. 120 years, I imagine, of a tree right here in these windows and some type of garland lining these stairs. 120 years of mommas and daddies up... all night wrapping gifts. 120 years of watching their babies grow up in awe of the magic this season brings. 120 years of looking forward to what the next year might bring. We all feel this one this year, some way more than others, but friends don’t wish what’s left of this year away. Don’t miss this opportunity to soak up where you are with the people you have around! This is our baby boy that just turned 2 and I’m certain next year he won’t be so baby anymore! Also, this is our first year without a fireplace so Jon built me this stocking holder from @jenwoodhouse plans and I’m loving it paired with those @potterybarnkids stockings! #ohchristmastree #farmhousechristmas #babiesdontkeep
