Real life: not all days are a great video. Sometimes stability is a big challenge and one side is a little bit more challenging. Translation: sometimes your balance is off and one side just sucks and is off from the start. Practice, patience... and next time. ... Wanted you guys to see an example of how one day and one side can be different than the next!

This movement came out of nowhere today with a private client. She nailed it and we both were so excited Growing up I played all the sports: basketball, softball, swimming, volleyball.. all of them. I was such a tomboy I quit gymnastics because I didn't like the leotards (seriously). Pilates has been there for me through all the life and body changes I've experienced so far. Honestly, I haven't practiced this specific exercise in YEARS. But because of the foundation I've c...reated and maintained through more stability, this was possible today. Tomorrow might be different and maybe tomorrow it doesn't work. But today, my client and I looked at life from a different angle for a bit and it felt really good

"The opposite of depression is not happiness, it's expressiveness. You understand? The more you can express yourself, the less depressive you will be. You can express yourself any way you like, however you'd like to take that.... Expression is the opposite of Depression." - Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés, The Power of the Crone I shared this quote with a few dear friends and they loved it as much as I did. So I thought I'd share it here if it brings anyone insight, inspiration, connection, clarity, or possibly a sense of peace

Why do we have so much equipment in a Pilates studio? Each piece of equipment has its own list of exercises, but what is also brilliant is the ability to take one exercise intention or idea on multiple pieces to gain a different challenge or connection. Mat exercise too challenge? Maybe the Chair can help you out! (For those of you who know my Chair obsession )... My 10 week challenge (in studio classes) will introduce you to each piece of equipment in my studio. This way you can learn in a comfortable time frame how each piece works! Still spots open this week to sign up at www.freemanpilates.com #freemanpilates #equipmentpilates #matpilates #pilateschair #reformerpilates #pilatescadillac #pausepilates

Pilates Props: What do you need for in-home or virtual workouts? While no props are required to do Pilates Mat exercises, sometimes a prop can help you successfully connect with an exercise, be a therapeutic tool, or can add a fun challenge! We have all the props in this video for sale at our studio, so email us to reserve yours and we will have it ready for you!... #freemanpilates #pausepilates #pausestudio #10sessionchallenge #matpilates #pilatesprops

Fluffy snow Cozy private studio space My new location offers a private studio space in addition to our group space. ... So, whether you're a little intimidated by classes or just want your own space, this room has received rave reviews. Also, for those still mindful of group spaces and COVID, the private studio also has a small private waiting area separate from the group waiting area. Stay tuned for a "virtual tour" of the studio to see our progress! #freemanpilates #privatepilates #privatestudio #pausestudio

A few of my favorite things: Pilates Plants Concrete... Wood Natural light, sunny or cloudy (I had already finished my coffee, but go ahead and add a coffee in there too...) It is still overwhelming to know this was all an idea in my head a year ago. Still a few pieces left to finish my studio space from the design end, but when they come together it is going to be so, so, so awesome.....

Cycling and Pilates Thank you to James Walton Coudright Junior and Elise Kristine Edman for being such great Pilates Pros today! They gave some insight on how Pilates has helped with their cycling and overall improvement in recovery post cycling, skiing, snowboarding.. whatever these two do next! They are rockstar students after 2 years of practice Check out the video to see an example of what I love to call a "move and groove" session, where its less about precision and perfection and maybe just moving on the equipment is what's needed.

Between Two Reformers Part 1: Breathing and why a Private Pilates Session can be Transformative Breathing and why a Private Pilates Session can be Transformative (If you understand the " " reference above, we are already friends)... Breathing is a hot topic now, so I asked my private Pilates client, and dear friend, Joe, to join me in the Private Pilates studio space at the Pause Studio to talk about his experience working with me on breathing and how it helped manage his back pain. The 3 main takeaways from our conversation: - Taking the time to learn proper breathing may not be flashy or fancy, but it can be transformative for helping manage pain, anxiety, and build better body awareness - A Private Pilates session can be immensely helpful, in some cases, vital, for both the instructor and client to make the connections needed for a successful session - Coming into a Pilates studio can be intimidating for everyone, but once you come in and start the journey the pieces start to fall into place Joe’s journey is unique to him and not everyone starts or follows the same pace or exercise recommendations. But what is most important in Joe’s journey and other clients that come to Freeman Pilates for pain management is they took the time for their SPECIFIC needs with a private session first. They gained the concepts and specific exercises that worked best for them to begin their journey of managing pain both inside AND outside the studio. More to come on Joe’s journey and his experience starting Pilates to come with Part 2! Huge thank you to Joe for his honesty and transparency in this conversation!

As we prepare for this first phase of "re-opening" in our city, it could be easy to forget that our minds and bodies may have changed during this time at home. We may be tempted to start scheduling the things we "should" do or jump right back to our old schedules. We may feel like this unique time is over and now it's back to the grind. But that's not true. And do not in any way let yourself be convinced otherwise. We have a new normal and we have ALL felt it. Deep in our cor...e, we know we can't go back to how we were all overworked and barely hanging on. We have realized our own personal values of what's important to each of us. How we want to reframe our work day. Maybe something we enjoy that we forgot about. Every single person I've talked to during this time has all said in some way they FEEL how this time has changed them. How cool is that? If you've never read this story of the mixed up chameleon, I encourage you to do so. Catch yourself when your tempted to do things based off what you see or hear others do, what you see see on social media, or if your work is pushing you to get back to your normal schedule. Don't get mixed up with all the "should's." But also don't feel guilt or shame when you do.. because we will. We all will get mixed up in the beginning as we go back because that's what we did for so long. Setting these new boundaries will be new, and they will be challenging to keep at first. Focus on yourself, who you are now, where your mind and body are now and start there. And when you get a little mixed up, just go back to being your old "new" self

I bought this book a few years ago and it's been helpful during this time along with a few others I've been reading. I don't know about you, but getting kicked off my normal schedule when this all started was a rude awakening. I still struggle with trying to make a plan, realizing that plan won't work, and trying to be more in the present. This mediation today just felt so on point as I feel like we are all experiencing waves of everything during all this. A wave of panic, f...ear, anxiety, stress, depression, grief, sadness, exhaustion, fatigue, sleep, recovery, calm, peace, happiness ... then it might start all over again. As we get ready to enter into a new month that will bring about more changes, my intention is to ride the waves more. I've heard a variation of this many times before, so now more than ever it seems time to practice it. Cheers to catching waves See more

This meditation was acutally from April 24, but I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. What a unique quote for this time as we are all more secluded from each other. Before the pandemic, I personally dealt with stress, grief, and emotions by staying busy. It was both a mix of an unhealthy work schedule, lifelong habits, and being used to distractions. Don't get me wrong, I sincerely LOVE what I do, but it was a huge distraction to actually dealing with things I neede...d to deal with. This quarantine time has been a huge challenge for me to stay home and not be able to distract myself. It was painfully obvious... wanting to organize something, move furniture around, clean something again... when I finally came face to face with the distractions it wasn't pretty, or fun, but I was able to really sit with the things I needed to. Today was so interesting because this morning it was gloomy and rainy, and I typically would plan out my day for a "get stuff done indoors day." But as I'm typing this it is literally beyond the most beautiful blue sky out my window. For the first time in as long as I can remember, I now understand, even for a moment, the concept of "not planning too far ahead." If I would have planned too much for today, I wouldn't be able to adjust to the sunshine. And I can actually FEEL that I can make that adjustment because I'm not stuck in my old pattern. So, like this quote says, maybe it took a little time to drift away to actually be brought back and enjoy what's in front of me. If you haven't drifted away yet and are still stuck in the same spot on the shore as you were before the pandemic, maybe sit down in the boat, take a couple rows out, float for a bit, and just see what you feel

I took a week off from the studio this week to rest, regroup, and reflect. Much needed and so thankful! What is even more special, was helping an amazing and inspiring friend celebrate the opening of HER OWN studio. A dream she dreamed 3 years ago and now it's here! What tops that: another amazing friend, pilates instructor, Registered Dietitian, and business owner being there to celebrate as well. ... How lucky am I to know and call these entrepreneurs my friends and peers?!? I pinch myself everytime I'm around them because I am in the presence of such genuine thoughtfulness, creativity, and intellect. We support each other in every step of the journey because we know the end goal isn't competition - we simply want to make people feel and move better. #boompilates and #yellowbirdeats you guys are the best. "Time flies"... what an understatement! It has been a bit since I've posted or shared anything because, well, time has been flying! Between continuing education courses, traveling for new training courses, classes, private sessions, NKT, and the first full year of owning my own studio, I can't believe it's already the end of March 2019. I was inspired to share some exciting news from my email inbox today: Freeman Pilates is one of the top rated studios on ClassPass!!... This was such exciting news and an honor. Opening my own space was an unexpected dream come true, and the first year definitely came with many learning experiences. I am incredibly thankful to have had so many wonderful students in my studio! I have learned so much this past year of what works, what doesn't, how I can improve, and most importantly - that I'm doing what I love!! I look forward to increasing my class schedule, improving the studio experience, and making my classes even more effective. Stay tuned for more updates to come in April! And, thank you all so much for your continued support!!

Feeling warm and fuzzy today - partially because the sun is finally out, but also because the sun is coming in through the windows of my own Pilates studio, after an amazing private session, feeling such strong, positive energy in this space. This week has been packed with new students, powerful sessions, and so many "wow" moments. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the crazy ride I've been on the past 8 years. The extreme highs and the extreme lows. I wouldn't have the lev...el of empathy to pass along and help people if I wouldn't have experienced all I have. Every single experience, decision, and person has brought me here. So I sit in gratitude, with #nofilter in my photo or my writing, to share the beauty of this space, and the excitement of what it will become. I'm so thankful to all my friends and family along the way who've helped and supported me. I'm thankful for my students, new and old, for allowing me to learn so much from you. #herecomesthesun #warmandfuzzy #thankful #pilatesstudio #nofilterfriday

"My #core has never worked like that. Even my organs are sore."... "I don't know what just happened." "Wow. That was fun. I didn't think I could do that." "That was so empowering. Can I do it again?" Freeman Pilates 16.05.2020

Inspired by others, to celebrate Pilates #marchmatness I practiced the Roll Up. This exercise used to be no problem for me. However, after having an emergency c-section with my daughter Aria 18 months ago it has been quite the journey to get back to loving this movement. The first time I attempted a roll up after Aria I felt zero core engagement and could barely get my shoulders off the floor. It was at first upsetting (...let's be real, I was pissed and cried a little), bu...t then it became humbling and a goal was set. I have been in awe of how my body remembered all the Pilates training I've done over the years and how, slowly and with practice, I am now almost back to the movement. Things feel very different, but it's happening. Pilates is so amazing because it connects the body in a way I can't describe. And before you know it, a movement that was once impossible just comes together and "happens." This movement felt very appropriate in how the last year of my life has been crazy but it all came together and the studio "happened," like it was always meant to be there.
