this week is dye test/hydraulic test. many people are asking for a dye test but no inspection, as if a dye test is something different than an inspection. this ...is not correct. when a hydraulic test is being conducted during an inspection, dye MAY be used to color the effluent water so that we can determine that the water seen is or is not the subject property's sewage effluent. Dye is NOT mandatory to be used on every hydraulic test. It is the option of the inspector. It is a helpful and useful tool for inspectors but it is not a must to do on each inspection. When doing a septic inspection, if there is water on the ground, especially during/after a rain event, it is strongly recommended that a dye is used during the ...hydraulic test. by dyeing the effluent in the septic, you can then distinguish between ground water and sewage effluent water. this is the reason we, as inspectors, add dye to the septic or aeration unit at time of inspection during the hydraulic test. this saves from confusion as well as frustrated parties involved.
