Spring rains create dangerous flooding conditions. There are some areas in our community that are prone to flooding over roadways. Keep in mind that it takes only 12 inches of flowing water to sweep small cars off roadways. Roads can be damaged or weakened by flooding, which is often unable to be seen in flooded conditions. That is why it’s always best to turn around, don’t drown.

Changing your smoke detector batteries when you change your clocks is a great habit to practice. With daylight savings time beginning this Sunday, the time is right to do just that! Working smoke alarms save lives!

Today Frontenac Firefighters are doing review on "difficult airways". From the minute we stepped foot in our first Ems class as students to the day we retire as paramedic firefighters, airway control is a skill that we take very seriously. Airway control is never a mastered skill, but should always be an improved on skill. Today, we do just that to be ready for our community and surrounding area in time of need.

Still thinking about a #newyearsresolution? How about eliminating distracted driving. Regional law enforcement agencies want to remind you about the rules for y...ounger drivers and the risks for all drivers who text while driving. Distracted driving also includes drowsy and impaired driving. As @saveMOlives says, If you feel different, you drive different. Consider enabling phone features like Do Not Disturb While Driving or having a passenger respond to a text for you.

19 years ago, on September 11, 2001 a series of events occurred that would change our nation forever. At 8:45 am, a Boeing 767 struck the North Tower of the Twin Towers in New York City. 18 minutes later, a 2nd 767 struck the South Tower. It was clear at this point, that the United States was under attack. At 9:45 am, a Boeing 757 crashed into the Pentagon in Washington DC. At 10 am, the South Tower collapsed, followed by the North Tower 30 minutes later. At 10:10 am, Flig...ht 93 crashed in rural Pennsylvania. That day, 2996 people lost their lives, including 343 firefighters and 60 police officers. On December 18, 2001 congress approved September 11th as Patriot Day, a National Day of Service and Remembrance. As of 2018, a total of 10,000 additional people have been diagnosed with 9/11 illnesses, and that number continues to climb today. Today, we remember those who lost their lives on that day, and those that have lost their lives in the years that followed. We will never forget. (Shared from our brother at Rock Community FD)

Today the Frontenac Paramedics were dispatched to Ladue to assist with an EMS call. The call was originally dispatched as an accidental injury. Upon arrival, the patient was found laying on the roof and had fallen from a height of approx 10’ from the parapet roof to the structural roof below. As the patient was falling the ladder he was utilizing to exit the roof area also fell, subsequently landing on top of the patient. It was determined by the crews on scene that a lad...der truck would be needed to safely and effectively hoist the patient from the roof area to the ground. Creve Couer Fire (2315) was then dispatched to the scene with their ladder truck to assist Frontenac and Ladue in this EMS Rescue. The patient was safely extricated from the roof and transported to a local hospital with no life threatening injuries. Great work by Frontenac Fire / Paramedics, Ladue FD and Creve Couer in executing a difficult rescue today.

Due to the heightened awareness and severity of the COVID-19 virus, we regretfully must implement a strict no visitor/ visitation policy for the Frontenac Fire Dept. Visitors to the firehouse will not be allowed until further notice. In effort to protect the Frontenac Firefighters and Paramedics from an already high risk situation, we will feel that this temporary visitation restriction is necessary to ensure their safety, in addition to being able to stand ready to serve our residents in their critical time of need. Should you have an emergency, please call 911 and we will respond immediately. We thank you for your understanding during this difficult time and look forward to seeing you in public again in the very near future. For general questions you may contact the Frontenac Fire Dept at 314-994-1801.

FRONTENAC CARDIAC SAVE RATE SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER THAN NATIONAL AVERAGE. In 2019, the Frontenac Fire Department’s emergency medical services responded to multiple calls for emergency care with the average response time being approximately four minutes. Statistics show that lives are usually saved or lost within six minutes of an emergency. The department ran a wide variety of EMS calls with the top five being injury, generalized sick cases, fainting, chest pain, and difficulty... breathing. Six patients suffered out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest in which three were successfully revived. In the past five years, 19 patients have suffered out-of-hospital Sudden Cardiac Arrest with 42% being successfully revived in the field by Frontenac Fire Department Firefighter/ Paramedics and 26% after arrival at the emergency department. In total, 68% of sudden cardiac arrest of Frontenac Fire and EMS were successfully revived. Sudden Cardiac Arrest is becoming more frequent with over 356,000 cases reported annually and only 10% of these cases nationally having survived the sudden cardiac arrest. The four links in the chain of survival include: rapid access, rapid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), rapid defibrillation, and rapid advanced life support. Prehospital identification of patients experiencing STEMI has been shown to be an important factor in significantly improved outcomes through clinically relevant reductions in door-to balloon times. What is the key to survival for Sudden Cardiac Arrest patients? Bystanders IMMEDIATELY starting CPR! One hundred percent of the patients that survived out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest had bystander CPR started immediately on them before the Frontenac Fire Department arrived, as healthcare professionals, we cannot stress enough the importance of this! If you would like to learn CPR please contact the fire department or visit the American Heart Association’s website. The American Heart Association (AHA) has promoted this concept of a chain of survival for cardiac arrest that describes a sequence of events from bystander CPR through EMS interventions and transport to definitive care that are associated with improved survival.
