Our friends at NWS tell us that predicting winter precipitation can be difficult at times for our area. With that in mind, remember that even a "glazing" of ice and/or snow can provide for treacherous travel on our local roadways. Make sure you use extra caution this week if you have to drive. And pass it along to the young drivers in your life.

Snow? Here’s the take from local weatherman Mike Reeves.

Farmington Emergency Management 22.11.2020

Weatherman says clear skies. If you take photographs, would you post them here??

Yesterday, Missouri Governor Mike Parson issued a Public Health Warning. We are facing some critical times over the next month or so. Based on our recent numbers related to COVID-19, the Governor has recommended an action plan for all citizens of Farmington and St. Francois County -- Category 1 County Action Plan: Extreme Risk. He strongly advises the wearing of masks in all offices and businesses where social distancing is not possible. He also gave us personal, busine...ss, travel, and local government advisories. There are vaccines on the horizon. But it could be a tough stretch until we get there, especially over the Holidays. Take care! For more details on the Governor's Public Health Warning, please go to: https://health.mo.gov//novel-cor/pdf/advisory-20201119.pdf

Areas to our north and west have been "red flagged" for high fire danger. We are not in the warned area. But we haven't had significant rainfall and with windy and dry conditions, we could that change. Our hearts are heavy, and our hearts are broken, as we morn the tragic loss of Ethan Bryan. We morn with Dan Bryan, Jackie Bryan, McKenzy Bryan, and the rest o...f his family and friends, which include the West County and North County School Districts. Simply put....Ethan was an awesome and amazing young man with a heart of gold. He was a cherished son, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, teammate and co-worker. He had a sweet and gentle, yet passionate, soul with an infectious smile that absolutely lit up the room. At this time of extreme grief and sorrow, let’s continue to pray for God’s comfort, and that He give us understanding to help us heal. Let’s also be reminded of the life and legacy that Ethan leaves behind, and celebrate the impact Ethan had on us individually, and as a community. The West County School District, and their amazing baseball team established a memorial in honor of Ethan last night, and with the efforts of Officer Stephanie Memhardt, of the Desloge Police Department, as well as, Carolyn Bullock and James NotJebo Bullock, a living memorial has also been established at the front entrance of the Desloge City Pool where Ethan was a valuable member of our pool staff/family. Let’s make this living memorial grow to show support for Ethan’s family, and what he meant to us. Ethan will be missed by all! Please share.

Cases have increased by 100 since July 1st (34 from DOC). 13 cases have required hospitalization during their illness; 3 are currently hospitalized. Cases of... COVID-19 are increasing across the state. The Health Center is seeing an increase in daily reported cases, hospitalizations, and test positivity rates indicating that community transmission is occurring. We currently have 49 known active cases and more than 250 close contacts to positive cases that the Health Center has asked to self-quarantine. The next 2-4 weeks in St. Francois County have the potential to be a turning point for our community. Citizens need to take personal responsibility to do the following; monitor for symptoms of COVID-19, wear masks when within 6 feet of others, and stay home if you are sick or are awaiting test results. We are working hard to hire additional personnel, increase access to testing, develop a community status indicator system, and provide other resources. The St. Francois County Health Center is strongly discouraging large social gatherings of any kind. If we are going to slow the spread of this virus, we must come together as a community. We understand the frustration and difficulty we’ve all experienced. Every citizen, business, and organization has a role to play and the choices we each make will shape how SFC comes out of this pandemic. Let’s work on making our community safe for our families, friends, and neighbors. We appreciate the individuals who are following public health recommendations, but as a whole, we can do better. We must do better.

Farmington Emergency Management 06.07.2019

The NWS has downgraded our categorical risk of severe weather from "slight" to "marginal." That is a good thing. Please stay vigilant and #weatheraware as we make our way into evening.

Farmington Emergency Management 02.07.2019

Our categorical risk for severe weather has been upgraded from "marginal" to "slight." Timing appears to be between 3 PM and 9 PM. The biggest threat is high wind, large hail, and heavy rainfall. The National Weather Services tells us trends will be monitored and a severe weather watch (tornado, thunderstorm, and/or flash flooding) is possible later this afternoon #WeatherAware

From the National Weather Service: A TORNADO WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FOR ST. FRANCOIS COUNTY AND THE SURROUNDING COUNTIES. THE KEY TO TORNADO SURVIVAL IS TO BE PREPARED AND TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION WHEN A WARNING IS ISSUED OR WHEN YOU FEEL THREATENED.... REMEMBER, THE ACTIONS YOU TAKE DURING A TORNADO EVENT MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE AND THE LIVES OF THOSE YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR. A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WHICH CAN PRODUCE TORNADOES IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA. IF YOU ARE IN THE WATCH AREA, KEEP INFORMED OF THE LATEST WEATHER INFORMATION. THESE STORMS CAN DEVELOP RAPIDLY SO THERE MAY BE OCCASIONS WHEN ADVANCE WARNING IS NOT POSSIBLE. A TORNADO WARNING MEANS A TORNADO HAS BEEN SPOTTED OR INDICATED BY RADAR, AND YOU SHOULD TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND THOSE AROUND YOU. FOLLOW THESE SAFETY RULES TO KEEP YOURSELF SAFE: (1) MOBILE HOMES PROVIDE ABSOLUTELY NO PROTECTION FROM HIGH WINDS. IF YOU LIVE IN A MOBILE HOME, PLAN YOUR ESCAPE TO A NEARBY STURDY BUILDING THAT WILL GIVE YOU PROPER SHELTER. AT THE FIRST SIGN OF AN APPROACHING STORM GO IMMEDIATELY TO THIS BUILDING. (2) IN HOMES, APARTMENT COMPLEXES, OR OTHER SMALL BUILDINGS, GO TO THE BASEMENT OR TO A SMALL ALL-INTERIOR ROOM ON THE LOWEST FLOOR LIKE A HALL OR BATHROOM CLOSET. USE HEAVY FURNITURE FOR SHELTER OR COVER YOURSELF WITH A MATTRESS OR BLANKET. (3) IN SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS, FACTORIES, OR SHOPPING CENTERS, GO TO DESIGNATED SHELTER AREAS. INTERIOR HALLS ON THE LOWEST LEVELS ARE USUALLY THE BEST. STAY AWAY FROM GYMNASIUMS OR AUDITORIUMS. AVOID ALL OUTSIDE WALLS AND WINDOWS. (4) NEVER TRY TO OUTRUN A TORNADO IN A VEHICLE. TRAFFIC AND THE LAYOUT OF ROADS MAY BLOCK YOUR ESCAPE. YOU SHOULD ABANDON CARS AND TRUCKS IF A TORNADO APPROACHES, AND TAKE SHELTER IN A NEARBY BUILDING. (5) IF CAUGHT IN THE OPEN WITH NO SHELTER NEARBY, FIND A DITCH, CULVERT, OR OTHER LOW AREA AND LAY DOWN FLAT. COVER YOUR HEAD WITH YOUR HANDS FOR PROTECTION.

We received about 1.3 to 1.5 inches of rain in an hour yesterday. That's a lot of rain in such a short period of time. Fortunately we no serious issues. While we don't know exactly what type of rain totals we will get today, we are under a flash flood watch. This system will also bring the potential for dangerous lightning and localized flooding. #WeatherAware #FlashFloodWatch
