Epiphany of Our Lord Parish 02.11.2020

FYI, starting tomorrow there's an updated health mandate for the city. This does not affect Masses at Epiphany and we are still free to operate under the same guidelines we've been following. 285 Masses here since May 18 without any issues. Please pray it stays that way.

A Happy Veterans Day to all our Veterans. We are grateful for you! On November 11, 1919, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson created a holiday to honor the armistice ending World War I, which formally ended the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. That holiday later became Veterans Day. This is quite fitting because today is a feast day of the soldier Saint, St. Martin of Tours. There's the famous story of how Martin met a poor man trembling in the cold and beggi...ng at the city gate. Martin had nothing but his weapons and his clothes, so he drew his sword, cut his cloak in two, and gave half to the beggar. Some of the bystanders laughed at him wearing only half a cloak; others were ashamed at not having relieved the man’s misery themselves. That night in his sleep Martin saw Christ dressed in the cloak he had given to the beggar and said, Martin, still a catechumen, has covered me with his garment. He later told his commander: I have served you as a soldier; now let me serve Christ. He left the army and became a hermit under the direction of St. Hilary. He went on to be elected bishop, dedicate his efforts to evangelization, and found a monastery. He was a true soldier for Christ, showing us the way of Christian duty and how to place our lives at the service of Christ the King. In our efforts to do the same, may St Martin pray for us.

Today's homily - An uneducated saint has more wisdom than even Aristotle at the height of his intellect.

Because of the continued growth in attendance at the 6:30pm Sunday night Mass, I've been running out of time to hear all the confessions before Mass. I apologize for not being able to hear all of the confessions! Beginning this Sunday, I am officially changing the start time for confessions to 5:45pm. Keep up the good work, everyone.
