Baby Wearing isn’t just a modern day thing! Researching some of my Scottish history and came upon this Most Scottish women wore the arisaid ( known as earrasaid or earasaid in Gaelic), a long, wide piece of woolen fabric worn pleated over a petticoat, then held in place with a belt at the waist and a brooch at the throat. The surplus fabric was then draped over the head down to the feet. It kept the women warm and was often tied or wrapped so they could carry their babies while working and not expose them to the elements, or they wore them like the examples shown above. Arisaids were often passed down from mother to daughter. https://familyfolkandhistory.com//highland-dress-series-p/

If you’re having a baby today, congratulations!!
Nightfall had come.. after Tahja rested we walked the neighborhood. She remained silent and focused as labor had really picked up. Tahja remained in her zone, f...eeling safe and supported throughout... get your tissues out, as you witness God's work in action..the birth of baby Xionna was simply beautiful, in every way. THANK YOU TAHJA AND DENZEL for allowing me to share your intimate birth story with the world, as we strive to educate about midwifery care, home birth as a safe for low risk women, improve outcomes for black women, and empower all women to take charge of their bodies and birthing experiences. Love you all, to the moon and back! @penarosestudios Want to help change the narrative surrounding home birth? Feel free to share with your friends. See more
It’s #BirthTraumaAwarenessWeek & we are going to focus on prevention of and support for this phenomena. Thank you @naomisawatzkyppdoula for the original ...post. Let’s be clear. A healthy baby is NOT all that matters. We hear this message regularly, but what does it mean? Well, maternity services globally often focus primarily on the safety and well-being of the baby. And they sometimes do this in a patronising way. Let’s keep repeating the message that women matter. Birthing people matter. We all matter, and physical and psychological safety is as important for the mother as well as her infant. As midwives, doulas, maternity support workers and obstetricians - what we do and how we do it, what we say and how we say it - can make a woman’s birth experience either transforming or harrowing. We have that potential impact. The images in this post demonstrate the fact that women are influenced by the words we use. Sometimes we don’t realise what we’re saying - let’s keep being mindful during each interaction. Tomorrow this account is being taken over by @mumologist. The wonderful Emma is a psychologist specialising in pregnancy and birth - so do look out for her post and come along to chat to her! #enough #languagematters #wordsmatter #ahealthybabyisnotallthatmatters #womenmatter #birthingpeoplematter
