Baseball Season Is Just Around the Corner! Della Lamb Youth Services needs Baseball Coaches for the Spring Season! The Youth Baseball Program needs Adult Coaches for teams in five age groups.... 6 & Under T-Ball 8 & Under Machine pitch Full field - 10 & Under, 12 & Under and 14 & Under Coaches must complete on-line USA Baseball Certification, and pass State and National Background checks. Practices are 2 times a week [evening hours between 6 and 8 pm] with games on Saturdays - Mid-march into June at a few mid-town field locations. Enjoy helping kids at play and being an adult mentor. The UPS Foundation Supports Della Lamb Youth Services! Della Lamb Community Services appreciates the gracious support of the UPS Foundation and the on-going volunteer efforts of the local Kansas City employees. Recently the Foundation provided a $5,000 grant to support the Della Youth Services Program. The Della Youth Services Program offers after-school programming that provides academic support [homework help, tutoring, etc.], youth and leadership development activities,... recreational athletics and opportunities for community service in Northeast Kansas City and the urban core. The UPS Foundation allocates grant funding for each UPS region, district, and business unit to determine which organizations to support in their local communities. Local Community Involvement Committees are able to direct funds where they are needed most. On hand for the check presentation were: Natashia Bradley, UPS Neighbor to Neighbor Volunteer Spokesperson; Kip Robertson, Della Lamb Board President; Tony Woods, Della Lamb Youth Services Director; Giovanni Nelson, UPS Site Director; Cindy Mincher, UPS Grant Board Member; and Brenda Ransburg, UPS Global Business Manager.

Operation Santa - Day 1 Yesterday, we had a wonderful time providing a complete Holiday for low-income families. Getting ready for Day 2 and still need New Toys and Books and Frozen Turkeys. The Refugee Resettlement Case Worker is making arrangements for the scheduled arrival of a refugee family. Volunteer teachers are in place when adult students arrive for ESL & Cultural Orientation classes to learn English and the vital skills they need to become employed and self-sufficient in their new home Kansas City. Social Services staff will begin to stage Operation Santa, moving toys, clothing, & grocery items, into the gym for distribution to 900+ grateful families beginning Fri, Dec. 7. The weekly church volunteer group will arrive at 10 a.m. to organize, sort and bundle new clothing for more than 1,800 children to be served by Operation Santa. Operation Thanksgiving a Success! More than 800 low-income families received a 12-pound turkey and all the groceries for a complete Holiday Feast. It began early on distribution day as volunteers arrived to add butter and eggs to the pre-bagged groceries. Frozen turkeys were uncrated - then distribution began. Pre-qualified families arrived to receive this bountiful gift and were assisted by volunteers as they returned home. Thank you to all who assisted in this extensive ...process. Preparations Underway for Operation Thanksgiving Volunteers from many corners of Kansas City descended on Della Lamb to pre-bag groceries for Operation Thanksgiving. On distribution day, more than 800 pre-qualified, low-income families will receive a 12 -pound turkey and all the groceries for a Holiday Feast. Non-perishables included canned vegetables, stuffing and gravy mix, makings for an apple pie and chocolate cake, and fresh potatoes and onions. Donations are still n...eeded, particularly Frozen Turkeys. They can be dropped off Monday at Della Lamb 406 Woodland Avenue, KCMO 64106. Volunteers came from the Vineyard Church North, Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church and Country Club United Methodist Church, the Centurions, Summit Christian Academy and UMKC. For some it was a return visit, while others experienced the excitement of the day for the first time. Della Lamb is indebted to all of our volunteers and this year we will use more than 300 people to support Operation Thanksgiving and Operation Santa, yet to come in early December.

H&R Block on the Job at Della! Volunteerism was alive and well when 30 H&R Block employees recently spent an afternoon at Della Lamb pitching in to support the upcoming Operation Santa activities. The enthusiastic group dove right in to sort and package a recent arrival of donated shoes. They organized toy donations and bundled hats and gloves to be given to 1,000+ families at Della’s annual Operation Santa Program. A few also assisted teachers and interacted with the toddle...rs and preschoolers in the Early Ed/Child Care program. They came, they worked, and their efforts were so appreciated by our staff and teachers.
