Hello everyone! I am SO EXCITED to share with you this news! Kaylee has participated in DASA’s Skills & Drills wheelchair basketball program for a few sessi...ons now but it was always a drive up North. Well, after some asking around, we are able to bring the program down here to Jefferson County! And I volunteered to run the practice! I’m super excited for this. Here is all the information that I would love for you to share because you never know who will be interested! WHERE: Jefferson County YMCA in Festus is able to provide us gym space! WHEN: Thursday nights 4:30-5:15 HOW LONG: 6 week session beginning February 25th thru April 1st COST: $35.00 per athlete. **Someone from DASA will bring the sport chairs on the 25th. Here is some further information from DASA: Skills & Drills Skills & Drills Wheelchair basketball is DASA’s recreational sport where you learn the game of basketball & gain new skills through different drills. The players can go on to receive additional coaching once they become eligible for the competitive team. How do I know if my child qualifies? Wheelchair basketball athletes do not have to use a wheelchair in everyday life to play wheelchair basketball. However, athletes do have to have an irreversible lower extremity disability which consistently interferes with functional mobility. Players do not need experience or a wheelchair to get started. DASA will provide coaching, as well as wheelchairs for initial practice and play. If your child or you know someone who has a physical disability, they can become a DASA athlete by filling out a new athlete form on the website dasasports.org Please reach out to me (Theresa) if your have any questions or need help signing up/registering!
