Fire can spread rapidly through your home, leaving you as little as two minutes to escape once the alarm sounds. Your ability to get out safely depends on advance warning from smoke alarms. Ensure your home has the proper amount of smoke alarms and most importantly, that they are always in working order.

Last week, CFPD welcomed two new Firefighters, Scott Weir and Nick Miller, to the team. These firefighters completed a week of in-depth and hands-on training before reporting to their respective shifts. Here is a sneak peak at some of that training. Please help us in congratulating them on joining the CFPD family!

Every year CFPD crews polish their ice rescue skills through hands on training in frigid waters. We would like to remind you that walking or playing on ice is a dangerous idea, especially as temperatures warm. Ice can be thick in one area and thin in another which can lead to tragedy. We are prepared and ready, but please stay safe!

Yesterday afternoon Cottleville Fire 8724 assisted Central County Fire & Rescue with a home fire. When fire and EMS units respond to a fire in St. Charles County, teamwork is paramount because successful and efficient outcomes require well-coordinated rescue and suppression activities. Tasks such as deploying handlines, established a water supply, talking to bystanders about the possibility of people inside, primary and secondary rescue searches, ventilation control, and protective measures for owners' property all have to be conducted as quickly and orderly as possible. Yesterday, among other tasks, 8724 performed a primary (quick) and secondary search (very thorough) looking for possible victims or animals in the 2nd story of the home. Making sure everyone is safe is always the top priority of the fire service!
