Did you know that Camp Fire Heartland tracks outcomes to make sure our programming is making an impact? In fact, our youth outcome evaluation showed that youth reported notable improvements in their lives by actively using their Camp Fire Heartland taught Conflict Resolution capabilities. These improvements included: 90% reported that they can change how smart they are by working hard,... 97% reported that they believe they can be good at anything they set out to do, 78% indicated they were able to work better with others, 73% indicated they had a better understanding of people who were different than them.
I spy some incredible kids celebrating the importance of Afterschool and Out of School programs! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5RGUMvC70k&feature=youtu.be
Have you gotten your copy of the KCMOre Magazine? Camp Fire Heartland made the cover for its partnership with KC Parks and Recreation to provide Virtual Learning Support to children in the Kansas City area! https://www.kcmo.gov//kcmore-magazine-and-/kcmore-resident
Studies show the Social Emotional Learning competencies increased students’ academic performance by 11 percentile points (!!!) compared to students who did not participate in such SEL programs. Students participating in SEL programs also showed improved classroom behavior, an increased ability to manage stress and depression, and better attitudes about themselves, others, and school. https://casel.org/impact/
Our Thrive{ology} framework is founded on #SEL principles, which we formalized in 2012 and have since integrated into all of our programs nationwide. Camp Fire focuses on the whole child’ skills of identifying sparks, developing a growth mindset, learning goal management and reflecting. These are social and emotional tools that kids will use their entire lives, no matter what vocations they choose or challenges they face.
Social-Emotional Learning recognizes that critical life skills extend beyond the traditional reading, writing and arithmetic. We know (both intuitively and through evidence-based studies) that kids thrive when they are taught how to identify and manage their emotions, build healthy relationships and make great decisions and at Camp Fire, we work with young people to hone those skills. It's AMAZON PRIME DAY! And we have an Amazon WISH LIST! With Camp Fire Heartland's Out-of-School program, we serve families who have to work and no place to send their children since school is virtual. We have children from 7 AM to 6 PM everyday. We help them with their school work, provide social/emotional learning, and feed them up to 3 meals a day. Because children can't share supplies in a pandemic, we need your help. Check out our wish list below! ... https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2DR535RK8UVWG
What do you do when you can’t drink out of the water fountain because there’s a pandemic? You ask for water bottles so the kids in our Virtual Learning program can drink water safely throughout the day. A big THANK YOU to Excel Linen Supply, All Star Awards & Ad Specialties, Kansas City Sports Commission & Foundation, WIN for KC, and HCA Midwest Health for the water bottle donations!
