On this date in 1913, Hall of Fame 1B Johnny Mize was born. In his six seasons in St. Louis, "The Big Cat" hit .336, averaged 108 RBI per season and was runner-up for the NL MVP Award in 1939 & 1940. A 10-time All-Star, Mize won both a batting and home run title and still holds the MLB record for most three-HR games in a career with six. #CardsHOF

On this date in 1914, Cardinals Hall of Fame pitcher Harry Brecheen was born. Nicknamed The Cat for his feline-like reflexes on the mound and excellent fielding, the southpaw saved his best performances for October, helping the club win World Series titles in 1944 and 1946. In Cardinals World Series play, Brecheen ranks first in ERA (0.83), second in wins (4) and complete games (3).
We are sending our condolences to the family of Jay JW Porter. JW was one of the last MLB players to play for both the St. Louis Browns and the St. Louis Cardinals.
What a season for these two!
