Good morning!! We have had enough RAIN! We know it can be very upsetting if your basement floods! We hope this information will help someone. If you have carpet down, it possible you can save the carpet if you do these steps quickly. Try to remove as much water out of the carpet as possible using a drive vacuum (or some other method you might know) then carefully pull the carpet away from the tack strip. Pull the carpet back as far as it is wet, Remove the padding and d...iscard. Then expose the backing to a fan (or 2) until the carpet is completely dry. This could take a few days. Once the carpet is completely dry, (and upon inspection to see there is no damage to the backing before laying it back down), the carpet can be stretched back in over new pad. The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low pricing is forgotten. This always makes me sad when Robert goes out to a look at a job someone else sold carpet to and its measured wrong. Often, the customer doesn’t find this out until after its been installed. In this case, Robert was able to inform the customer prior to the installation that there was not enough carpet to cover for the pattern match. (Of course, Robert declined the installation). P...lease ... as a Consumer, ask more questions. A good installer will not be offended by your questions. 1) Where is seam placement? -The seams should be placed away from high traffic areas whenever possible. 2) What direction is the carpet being laid? -Carpet has a nap. If it gets turned the color will look darker/lighter. 3) Does the carpet have a pattern match? -Adding a flat percentage to the total yardage does not work. The carpet will come up short and the installer would have to piece the job together causing a head seam (when you cut across the carpet grain). Sometimes a head seam is necessary, but with certain types of carpet it would be better to pick a different carpet. However, if the installer has to make one, he should point this out at the measure stage. Remember too, Choosing a qualified installer is as important as choosing the right carpet.

On vacation. Robert helped some guys in North Carolina NOT mess up their job at the hotel we were staying at. If you just have regular seam tape, and the supply store is closed, you have to sand the silicone off the back of the paper before glueing down the carpet. Regular seam tape has silicone on the back of the paper and it will resist the glue. Which will cause a bubble where the seam tape is if you don't sand it off. Dedicated to his trade no matter where he is.

We do commercial work as well. Recently installed new carpet in the halls at Best Western Plus Seville just north of the Country Club Plaza. We've actually stayed at this hotel as a guest. My husband, Robert, was called the Repair Whisperer yesterday. It was a seam that peaked and the previous guys could not get it to lay flat. So he redid the seam.... and BAM! I wish I had a picture to show you of before and after, but he uses a flip phone. And I do the posting. There's a gap I can't fill.
