Broken Oak Barn Sale 20.02.2021

I hope what they remember most about this week is that we got through it together as a family.

My brother Blake and I laugh about it now, but when we were kids and faced something hard we hated what my dad always said in response. It has become a common phrase between Cam and I and Blake too and we now understand why daddy always said it. When we would turn to him for guidance he would always say "make it work". Which was never what we wanted to hear as kids facing challenges but I now see it is sometimes the very thing we need echoing in our ears as adults.... He taught us to not give up, to keep trying and to "make it work" even when things were hard. It is a deep down grit that has carried me for years and I just know it will get us through this next week. Thinking and praying for all of you tonight who are carrying a big load and never mention a word of it, I think you might get along with my dad just fine. See more

We lost a local favorite this week, Davis Sign & Truck Lettering I am so sad, but thankful to have his work all over our home and barn. He painted our original road signs and this big sign for our first market. He painted all of our 4-H signs for the fair when we were kids and road signs for Cam and I's wedding. They all mean even more now

It's a cold cold day in Missouri. Everything is froze and quite miserable when it comes to caring for the cows. So How about a funny story (somewhat funny)!? When we first started the markets Cam came home to tell me the barn painter was in town and he hired him to paint the barn. When we rounded the corner to go see their finished work the barn was shining like a ball of tin foil, it wasn't pretty. I wasn't mad, but I wasn't excited either! ... In his true engineer fashion he assured me it was the right move to add some life to the sheet metal. I told him I liked the rust and worn look, but oh well too late. Our neighbor told us it looked like a spaceship, it was pretty ugly. And here we are years later and the tin foil paint has faded and he was right it did buy a few more years for that old sheet metal! Looking forward to sunshiney days ahead and working around the farm to get ready for our June 11th and 12th market! Hopefully Cam doesn't surprise me with any paint surprises between now and then ;)

Little by little I am getting Christmas up at our home. I found that little handmade bell at the antique mall this summer and have been saving it for our front door wreath. The weather here has been beautiful so I have been cutting cedar and pine and making garlands and tucking sprigs here and there. I am enjoying putting touches here and there so much Are y'all decorated for Christmas or still working on it?

I started decorating for Christmas Today! It is the first day I have had a little time to do it in awhile! My favorite part is pulling out all the little things I have collected throughout the year from Antique malls and of course the barn. If you like to get off the beaten path and shop found items you will love visiting Nancy and Wanda of 2 Missouri Gals Treasures & JunksandJunk at Two Olde Crowes Antique Mall in Cuba, MO. Y'all love shopping Nancy and Wanda at the barn each year and they are famous for those handmade ladders that go so fast!

Time for another vendor share from our virtual market: Dirt Road Candles Misty and Heath were vendors at our fall market and y'all wiped them out! She has put together some really cute gift sets for the Holidays! Here is a little bit about Dirt Road Candles:... "Dirt Road Candles is a small family business owned by a couple born and raised in Edgar Springs, Missouri. Our focus is and will always be on creating strong, clean burning candles and melts. My husband Heath and I wanted a candle that smells the same the whole time its burning, not just when you light it. Making candles started as a hobby to make the type of quality candle we couldn’t buy anywhere. After a lot of research and testing, feedback from family and friends, we were so pleased with our products that we had to share. DRC only uses natural soy wax and high quality oils. We wouldn’t expose our family and friends to anything that was less than amazing. We think you should be able to enjoy that too. We use wood wicks and love the crackle sound they make when they are burning. Wood wicks are not just a type of wick, it's an experience we hope you will enjoy. We are proud of what we make and hope you like our products as much as we do."

This week's follow Friday is a fun one! Stacey with The Little Brick House Modern Country Home Goods & Gifts I got to know Stacey a few years ago while shopping at her store! I will never forget the day she agreed to be a vendor at the barn! We have loved having her and y'all have too! She is open this weekend and is debuting her newest little cabin and her Christmas Decor! I hope to make it down tomorrow and see all of her pretty pieces of furniture and new goodies she has a...dded to the shop for the Holidays! If you were at our fall market this year she was in the workshop just as you entered the market. She had beautiful furniture, metal pumpkins and the cowhide rugs! Go ahead and give her a follow so you can see her open dates from now through the end of the year and exciting things she will be adding to her shop in the next few weeks!

Excited about our "Follow Friday" this week! It is Kim Gregory with A Gypsy's Dream. Kim has been a vendor at the barn for a few years now and I remember when I was first starting out I came across her facebook page and thought "man I wish I could get her to come". We are so thankful for her continued support and love having her every year! Kim has a shop in Salem, Missouri and you are definitely going to want to visit her tomorrow! It is her three year anniversary and her Ho...liday Debut! She is open tomorrow from 10 -4. I love what Kim had to say about this weekend's opening: " We are so looking forward to our opening. One of my favorite things to do each year is to come up with my themes and make the plan, but most of all, make that plan a reality. We hope to see you all sometime this week. " The shop looks beautiful and it is the perfect place to visit this weekend! Follow her on facebook for more of her schedule in the coming weeks!

I hope they remember these days. The ones where I pick them up at school a tick late because I am finishing up a project. The days where we work in the workshop until dinner and they learn to fold boxes and cut tape.... The days where we crank our favorite play lists and eat lemon drops and chocolate chips while we work (not on the same day of course). The days where they are excited about their momma's work and I am excited to hear about their days. These are the days I want to remember. The stressful, the tiring and the purposeful. They are hard workers and my biggest cheerleaders and while they are my first calling I hope they remember that their momma listened to God's plan for her life. ** If you are awaiting a barn box we are peddling away. We finally received our last shipped item today and we are working away. We have called in reinforcements to help pack them and should start shipping Friday. Local pickups times will be emailed for next week so check you emails friday folks these babies are going out**

We have decided to start doing something special each Friday! We are calling it 'Follow Friday' and basically we are going to be sharing favorite businesses (mostly vendors from the barn) that we think y'all would enjoy! For our first week of 'follow friday' I couldn't thing of anyone better to share than Katy with Red Door Gifts & Boutique. Katy has been a vendor at the barn for almost our entire being. She has supported us from the very first sale by handing out fliers at h...er store. Today is the most special day for her family, her husband Andrew is home from deployment. He has been gone nearly a year and today Katy and her daughter finally got to see him again. Red Door gifts is located on Pine Street in Rolla and offers a HUGE variety of items for shoppers. It is the perfect place to get a gift for someone, items for your home or a treat for yourself. I went there today to get some jewelry for my nephew's wedding. My hope is that by sharing some of these businesses including Red Door that you would be encouraged to shop small. I am so proud of Katy for how well she has handled everything that has been placed on her plate this year while her husband has been deployed. It just goes to show that when you shop small you are truly supporting a person. Red Door has several special events coming up in their store with the holidays approaching! Follow their page for more details and information!

We are hopeful to take a road trip to their store this year for their Christmas opening! For those of you who don't know they restored an old church into their storefront and it's amazing! Can't wait to see what awesome things are ahead for then in the future!

Because you asked we are happy to share that we will be doing a barn box this fall! Many of you have messaged us that you were so sad you couldn't make it to the barn this year and asked if we would be doing a box! We are happy to announce that our one and only barn box of 2020 will go on sale Friday Morning at 8 am!... There will be a limited amount available and when they are gone they are gone. We spent most of yesterday working on them and I am so excited about what will be inside!! Typically our barn boxes are seasonal and have items specific to that season. We are calling this particular box the "cozy " box. The items in the box are perfect for fall but will also work well throughout the winter. So yes, they would make a perfect gift! The box has five items and some of them are handmade or vendor collaborations. We are working to make each one a beautiful and special package and our hope is that they will be just as much fun and special as our fall market was!
