The 12th Annual DGM Finale A Salute to Veterans Recap Calico Rock’s Pirate Ridge course was the site for this years DGM Finale. As the slogan mentioned we wan...ted to recognize our Veterans and raise money for the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) program. It was exciting having several of the VFW members out the the entire day. It was also wonderful having several veterans playing the tournament . This made for a great time to talk and hear them share their stories. Several VFW members took the time to come out and cook/serve food for the players. It was neat getting to talk to them and answer questions about our sport that several knew very little about. The VFW members were extremely excited and overwhelmed by the whole event. There was a raffle and the money was given to the local VFW. Nearly $1,200 was raised by 61 players! This was way over what was expected. Thank you to each and everyone of you who participated. The Pirate Ridge course is very challenging. It is both physically and mentally demanding forcing you to focus on every shot. If you lose concentration, things can get bad quickly. There were three temporary holes that were added to accommodate for our good friend, veteran, and ambassador of our sport Andre Anderson. As most know he lost his leg do to complications with many surgeries that resulted from a nasty fall that he had while serving as a Marine. He wears one of the most high tech prosthetic legs and lets very few things stand in his way despite the handicap. We all shared in his monumental victory of having the PDGA’s rule change this year allowing him (and other in similar situations) use motorized vehicles during PDGA events. The VFW even hooked him up with a Rescue Gator all-terrain vehicle for the event. It was a very cool seeing Andre play well and win on a course that would likely be impossible without the accommodation. Congratulations Andre and thank you to the Luster’s, the VFW, and the Luster’s for making it all possible! The Luster’s and their helpers truly did an incredible job. The course was beautiful and very well maintained. Many players were heard praising how nice the course was. Nikko Locastro, Open winner said, its one of the nicest holes I’ve seen in 2020, speaking of hole #5’s green. The rock formations surrounding the huge elevated basket around the green makes the hole almost epic. Although this is the signature, there are so many more challenging and equally beautiful holes that make the Pirate Ridge such a special course. There was definitely some unwanted drama that lead to a quick redesign of a hole less than an hour before round two tee off. Ground hornets made their presence known and attacked several players. It was so bad that one individuals bag had to be abandoned the entire second round as the hornets swarmed the bag. Hole 6 had to be barricaded and the tee pad moved to keep everyone safe and out of harms way. A big thanks for Michael Luster for stepping up and withdrawing so he could be a spotter and keep players directed aways from the hornets. We were all thankful that the weather was absolutely perfect for all the players. Eleven divisions made up the field. It was great seeing so many ladies come out and take on this challenging course. A big shout out to Nikko Locastro and Andrea Eads for winning the Pro divisions. Congratulations to all the others as well. You may see the official results here: https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/47706 Worth noting, there were 3 baskets given away in raffles: Tim Salgado won a custom Red Innova Discatcher Pro 28 Target in the main raffle. Andrea Eads won a Dynamic Discs Recruit Basket on the DD Brand Specific CTP challenge that ran the entire year. Jon Musick won a Blue Innova Discatcher Pro 28 Target in the year long Innova CTP challenge. Congratulations to all winners, and I’ll see many of you at the Encore (featuring the Lucky 13) in Republic in a few weeks.

The Disc Golf Monkey’s 12th Annual 2020 Vision Tour Finale A Salute to Veterans This year has been quite the roller coaster ride for us all. No one could have... foreseen the things that we all had to deal with in 2020. This year especially, I am so very thankful to be a part of the disc golf family. I am amazed how, despite the struggles and uncertainty of the things to come, disc golfers (new players & veterans) have continued to make disc golf move forward in a speed that was incredible. It’s hard to believe that the DGM Finale is here already. Saturday in Calico Rock, Arkansas on the Pirates Ridge course, players will be treated for another great event. This year’s theme is a Salute to Veterans. This is to thank and remember the people who have served and have given is the freedom to do the things we often take for granted. To all you Veterans and Service men and women still serving, Thank You so much for your sacrifices! A big shout out to the Luster Family for opening their course and raising funds to bring the Finale to Calico! I’d also like to thank Brandon Shield for the flyer, and Parker Asay for making one of the coolest hot stamps ever. It is awesome hearing so many Veterans message and say how much they like and appreciate this years slogan and stamp! Thank you all! IMPORTANT: Please note if you are a Veteran or would like your mini to be customized, this is the last day to sign up. Of course you may still sign up, but this is the last day that we can get the info. in to make the custom minis and banner. Lunch will be provided by the Calico Rock VFW Post #7730. Also all proceeds from the raffle will go to the VFW Post #7730. We are super excited to team with and help the VFW! Along with getting to play a super awesome course, getting a sweet players pack just for showing up, there will be 3 baskets given away in 3 separate raffles. Anyone who has played an event knows that I have two CTP’s. One is the Dynamic Discs/Trilogy Only, and the other is the Innova sponsored. Everyone will have two more chances to get their name in the ctp winners raffle for a basket for each CTP. I will be drawing a name out of the winners in both and giving a Dynamic Discs Recruit Basket and a Innova Discatcher Pro 28 away. I will also be giving away another Discatcher Pro 28 away along with a lot of other items in the regular raffle. Again the proceeds for this will benefit the VFW. I hope to see many of you in Calico Rock. If you’ve been, you know it’s a beautiful and challenging course. If you haven’t, come see for yourself! The 1st Hallowed Trails Recap: The first Hallowed Trails took place this past Saturday at Branson Trails. The weather could not have been much better. Temperatu...res reaching nearly 65 was a welcomed change from the miserable cold and rain that we had just days before the event. Fifty five players braved one of the most physically and mentally demanding courses in the state. Everyone played the epic blue course in the first round. The second round was played on an alternate 18 course that used both holes from the blue and pink courses. The alternate course was played to makes sure all groups could finish before dark. Thankfully the plan worked well. Tad Odom is credited with a lot of work on the course by Teddy and Liz. For all of us who enjoyed playing on the course and having it clean with new cut steps, we appreciate you directing the maintenance efforts! I know there were others that helped with this and we thank them as well. A big shout out of thanks to Teddy, Liz, and family for preparing and serving a great lunch. Players were offered burgers, hot dogs, chili, nachos, and the fixings. It was great having food ready. This was a big factor in allowing us to finish before dark. Live scoring, food on site, and Brandon Shields computer skills were all the keys to making for a quick break and getting everyone back out to finish before dark. After the second round there was an Ace throw off and a raffle. There were several items given away (some which were donated). We appreciate the donations for these raffles. As always the big ticket item was a basket. This time it was a Blue and Pink Monkey Trap! Awards were next where all the 1st place players received a very cool laser engraved stainless steel trophy. Pay out was then done for the Ams out of the DGM trailer. This was both Teddy, Liz, and my first event here. There were definitely some things that we learned and that we need to do for next time. Always looking at ways to make events better. It sounds like we will have that opportunity as we discussed this being a tour stop B tier event in the Spring. I’m already looking forward to it. If you like the idea of having another event here let us hear your thoughts. A big Congratulations to all the winners and especially Frank The Tank Hebert on his first pro win. This was well deserved! For the full results visit the PDGA web site here: https://www.pdga.com/apps/tournament/live/event
