Lots of folks are asking, so here's the scoop: Parks and trails are OPEN, playgrounds and buildings are closed. Springfield's stay-home order includes an except...ion "to engage in outdoor activity," specifically "biking, walking, hiking or running." Be smart: stay 6 feet away from anyone you meet, do not gather in groups, and if you're sick, stay home. We need everyone's help making sure our parks and trails stay safe! Read the full stay-home order here (see Section III A 1 c.) https://www.springfieldmo.gov//COVID-19-Stay-at-Home-Order See more
Just a friendly reminder of park and trail guidelines during this time. Be kind, be safe, stay healthy. Additionally, our Golf Courses (Rivercut Municipal Golf Course, Horton Smith Golf Course, and Bill and Payne Stewart Golf Course) are OPEN for play.
Get motivated to walk more by joining the Walk and Talk Book Club! The group meets every other Tuesday to get some exercise while talking about books.
NEWSequiota Park t-shirts! We were inspired to recreate the iconic large rocks, caves and stream from the park. With "Love our Parks" stamped on the back of the shirts, you can show how you're supporting parks for generations to come. The floating wetlands are designed to help counter algae and keep the water clear.
PARENTS: please keep your kids and teens out of flooded waterways in parks. This may look like a fun place to play today but it’s actually very dangerous. Lots of spots in parks are underwater due to flooding. Please be safe and stay out of the water. Thank you.
Cave tours are canceled for today and tomorrow, March 9-10. Details below.
Now hiring a caretaker for Sequiota Park!
Interesting Sequiota history.
Please keep an eye out for this lost watch, and if you find it, please keep it safe and contact the Park Board main office at 864-1049 after the long weekend. Thank you.
A really interesting day at Sequiota Park, installing these new floating wetlands to address algae in the lake with City of Springfield, MO - Connect with SGF E...nvironmental Services and Public Works. These floating structures are planted with native Missouri aquatic plants, and wrapped in chicken wire to keep geese from nibbling the leaves. They're made of cedar frames, with empty bottles (caps on!) sandwiched between layers of burlap and coconut fiber. The bottles keep the structures afloat, and the fibers hold the plants in place. Once the plants grow and flourish, they will help absorb excess nutrients that cause algae blooms in the lake. We won't see immediate results, but should know if they're working after a year or two.
