Today we meet Clara’s sister, Louisa, danced by Hanna Pierce. In our story, Louisa and her sisters share hot chocolate on Christmas Eve and then enjoy sharing memories from their time at the World’s Fair. Do you have a favorite holiday tradition? Tell us in the comments! We asked Hanna how she believes this eBook can impact our community, and about her favorite Nutcracker tradition growing up. I am really excited for this ebook because it shows how Ballet 314 is adapting... to the current situation of our country while still being creative and giving local artists a platform to share ballet with the community. Growing up at Midland Festival Ballet we always got to perform Nutcracker to a live symphony which made the experience extra magical. Pictured here as Fairy Floss, you can also catch Megan Buckley as a Flower and Suffragist in our eBook. Did you know that these whimsical headpieces were hand created for our 2019 production by Vivant Entertainment? We asked Megan to share about her Nutcrackers past, and her thoughts on being a part of this virtual eBook. I have danced in 25 years of nutcracker, 11 productions/different companies’ versions (including B314!) I had the honor performing as Sugarplum Fairy to... a live orchestra in Portland Ballet’s Nutcracker in Maine, four different years. Live music is a special and surreal experience for a dancer. The e book is a new way to experience STL history, music, dance and the classic tale of Nutcracker for the whole family! I’m so excited for kids of all ages to experience an interactive dance experience from their homes. I think this will become a holiday tradition for many families. Today’s dancer feature is Vanessa Woods. You will see her in the role of a Spanish Dancer in both the World’s Fair Scene and 2nd Act Divertissements. We can’t wait for you to see her dancing in this ebook adaptation! We asked Vanessa about the Nutcracker tradition: Over my life as a dancer, I've performed in 10 Nutcrackers each with different choreography, sets and costumes. Ballet 314's World's Fair interpretation has been the most unique and reimagined.... Her favorite Nutcracker memory: The first time I performed as the Snow Queen with the Saint Louis Ballet. It was a dream role I had watched others dance for years and I was extremely nervous, but excited to have my first time in the spotlight dancing to, what I think, is some of the most beautiful music of the ballet. Kicking off our first dancer-a-day post with Ashley Stettes, who is Clara in The Nutcracker & the 1904 World’s Fair. Did you know she also originated this role in our 2019 production? We asked Ashley what fun fact she learned about the World’s Fair from being a part of this project: The walnut souvenirs! What a fun and unique way to remember a special day!... Ashley’s thoughts about converting our live performance into an ebook: I am very excited to see the final product! It was such a fun project to be a part of and I’m happy we’re still able to keep the spirit of Christmas and the Nutcracker alive this holiday season. Photo: onemousecreative
