I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 I know I’ve said this before, but as the staff was dividing up tasks in the beginning of the COVID shutdown, and Pastor Daniel asked if I could take responsibility for the Friday Facebook devotions, I had no idea what a blessing it would turn out to be for me. It causes me to sit down and really think about the blessings, the miracles, the God moments of my life. Pastor Daniel talked about those mo...ments on Sunday as we celebrated the Transfiguration of Jesus. He urged us to look for them and that is what writing to all of you each week has done for me. I would encourage you to find ways to see and celebrate those moments when God’s presence is so undeniably with you, that it can take your breath away. The scripture from Philippians showed up in a devotion I read this week and it made me think of my mom. This week would have been her 93rd birthday and instead of being sad, which does happen a lot, I tried to celebrate the day of her birth by doing something that she loved doing. Not a hard task. Mom enjoyed life. But it is certainly true that one of her greatest loves was her church. She loved being a Methodist, loved the connectional church that did so much for the world because each congregation works together. She loved the fellowship and cherished great friends that she met in each congregation she was a part of. She was an educator so of course she also loved learning and was always writing down a bible verse that she wanted to talk to someone about, or that she wanted to memorize herself. One of her favorites was the Philippians verse I began with. The New King James Version of the bible is a translation I don’t use often, but I love this particular arrangement of words. Paul was writing to the church at Philippi and he was thanking them for their support. Chapter 4 is one of my favorites alsothere are so many uplifting and you can do it phrases from Paul. But with this verse he is reminding the followers that no matter what, if you have a lot or a little, if it's good times or bad, Christ is with us. And because of Christ, we can withstand it all. Today I know that some of you are missing a loved one like I am. Some of you are celebrating a new birth, a new relationship, a new job. Some are worried about bills piling up, about loved ones that are sick, or whether a call will come for an appointment to receive your vaccine. There are so many uncertainties in life that we must hold on to the certain and absolute truth, I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. Loretta
