AIDS Project of the Ozarks 11.12.2020

It is with a very heavy heart that today we say farewell to one of our dearest, sweetest and gentle clients, Myra Rains. We typically do not share names or photos of our clients, but with the blessing of her husband Jim, we felt like her life and even her death, could be told so as to educate the public. Myra left us recently due to COVID, but her story with APO goes back even further. We came to know Myra back in 2007 from her diagnosis with HIV. A diagnosis given that star...Continue reading

On this World AIDS Day, we wanted to share a story with you of one of our very early clients. Grant Lewis. We share the following with the blessing and encouragement of his dear mom, Linda Fisher Lewis. A wonderful lady that we are still honored to call friend, family and ally to APO. Grant was born in 1979 with the hereditary, genetic bleeding disorder, hemophilia. In 1982, at the age of 2, Grant required medicine to treat a non-life threatening bleeding episode. Sadly ...Continue reading

In just under an hour, we will be LIVE on Burrell Behavioral Health Facebook page talking World AIDS Day and the fight to end AIDS. We're thankful to our friends at Burrell for reaching out to us and including us in their "Be Well Community" series. #worldaidsday #APOLoveStory #EndAIDS

We kick off today's World AIDS Day commemoration by remembering all those we have lost to AIDS. From young to old, man and woman, gay to straight, CIS to transgender, white to persons of color, rich to poor, known to unknown, we have lost countless of individuals who's lives were cut short by this dreaded disease that first came into our vocabulary 39 years ago. May each of us find a moment today, to remember, to reflect and to honor those voices that have become silent. Let their rest be in peace, while our fight for ending AIDS remains strong. #WorldAIDSDay #APOLoveStory #EndAIDS

Tomorrow is the day kids as it's time for the 27th Annual AIDS Walk! We will be LIVE right here on our Facebook page at 9 AM for one hour as we bring our annual walk to where you are. We've talked to all those that will play a part in the walk and we've done all we can do on our end, including a boost to our LIVE stream capabilities. Only thing remaining is two things... 1: Tune in at 9 AM to see what and whom we have in store for you! 2: Help us reach our goal in raising $...8,000 by making your donation either at givebutter.com/apoaidswalk2020 or texting APOWALK to (202)858-1233. Your gift helps us continue in providing the services and care that many in our communities who are living with HIV/AIDS depend upon. Also your donation helps because our good friends at MAC Cosmetics are matching wvwry dollar that is raised thru our Virtual AIDS Walk.! That means if we reach our goal in raising $8,000, M.A.C Cosmetics will match it and it will become $16,000! An incredible gift that we can't pass up and will go far in providing client services in 29 counties of Southwest Missouri that we serve! So, make your donation now and tomorrow morning at 9 AM, come right back here for APO's 27th Annual AIDS Walk, virtual style. You won't be disappointed that you did. See you tomorrow!

We get a little worried when we see our nurses get excited about giving shots, as they have done for the last two days of our drive-thru flu clinic. No matter what though, we firmly and proudly believe that we have the...best...nurses! Along with these girls and the rest of our incredible nursing and clinic staff who kept everything running on the inside efficiently and smoothly over the last two days, we are forever grateful for their passion in coming to work every day, t...heir determination in helping our clients live strong and healthy lives, all while extending warmth and unconditional love to each person they see in our clinic. Without a doubt, we could not do what we do without each and everyone of them. Regardless of their infatuation with needles and giving shots (they need help!) #APOLoveStory #welovewhatwedo #weloveourclients #wearyourmask #washyourhands #getyourflushot See more

Once again, Covid makes us change things, but this one we're actually kind of excited about. That being we've got our new mobile clinic in place, large tent set up and cones marked for driving lanes as we're about to open up for our very first drive-thru flu clinic! Incredible planning and work from our clinic team as they are so excited to see many of our clients beautiful faces today (masked of course) for the first time in over 8 months!! They've been getting their tele-med doctor appointments, but nothing better then seeing their beautiful faces in person! #APOLoveStory, #welovewhatwedo, #weloveourclients, #maskup, #getyourflushot

We want to give a huge shout out of thanks to our incredible sponsors for the upcoming Virtual AIDS Walk on Saturday, Oct. 17th. We truly could not be doing this if it wasn't for their support, their encouragement and the friendship they extend to us each day here at APO. First, thank you so much to our Presenting Sponsors Grove Pharmacy & Grove Spa for once again standing right next to us and supporting us year after year. We also want to thank Burrell Behavioral Health..., Gillioz Theatre, MAC Cosmetics, Martha's Vineyard, National Avenue Christian Church, The Old Glass Place, Panera Bread, Queen City Eagles 3934 - Springfield, MO Ladies Auxiliary, Simmons Bank, & Starbucks. As stated before, each of these businesses and organizations, continue to step up to the plate every time APO puts out a call for their support. We hope that we as employees of APO and you as loyal allies to APO, throw your support behind each of these entities with your business and your gratitude. Finally, we would be remiss if we didn't remind you that our upcoming Virtual AIDS Walk is coming up on Saturday, Oct. 17th as we will be broadcasting LIVE here on our Facebook page that morning from 9 to 10 AM. We are about 2 1/2 weeks away from this year's Virtual AIDS Walk and we are needing YOUR help in trying to reach our goal of raising $8,000 on behalf of the walk. Your financial gift is so important to APO in our efforts in the continuation of providing great health care and client services to those living with HIV/AIDS in the 29 counties of southwest Missouri that we serve. Your gift helps us in so many ways from providing nightly housing to our homeless clients, behaviora...l health counseling, lab work, healthcare visits and expensive HIV medication. If you are able to give, please visit our donation page at https://givebutter.com/apoaidswalk2020 to make your very important gift. You can also text APOWALK to 202-858-1233 to make your donation as well. Every dollar that is given, is matched by the incredible people and friends at MAC Cosmetics. Between your giving and their matching, we can reach our goal. We'll have more exciting news to share soon about our virtual walk, but definitely put Saturday, Oct. 17 on your calendar to tune in on our Facebook page from 9 AM-10 AM, as we will be LIVE with this year's Walk. It will be a special hour with some very poignant moments, guests and tributes for this year's 27th annual walk.

We are excited to have our free walk-in testing available again, but for now it will be taking place at APO Downtown on Park Central West! The downtown location for the time being will only be open on Tuesday's and Wednesday's from 9-4. While no appointment is necessary, please know that we are only able to have two people in APO Downtown at one time. Any numbers bigger than that will need to wait outside until you're called in. We truly have missed all of you who were use to dropping in at our downtown location and look forward to seeing you soon!
