American Junior Shorthorn Association 13.12.2020

The National Junior Shorthorn Show & Youth Conference received 9,034 votes and was awarded most enjoyable junior national in the Best of the Barns Contest hosted by The Pulse & Sullivan Supply Inc. Thank you to everyone that made it possible. 2020 was a challenging year and we were lucky that our junior national was one of the most normal events that was able to happen. Thank you to Taylor County Expo Center and Rochelle Johnson for welcoming the AJSA and NJSS with open arms... to your facility. You helped us ensure that we could have our Shorthorn family experience a wonderful junior national while they were facing a tough year. Thank you to the Texas Shorthorn Association and Texas Junior Shorthorn Association for your support in fundraising, planning and execution. You provided so much help and we couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you to the entire staff at Shorthorn Country, from photography to assistance with activities during the week, you are always there. We appreciate your support throughout the entire year and the many years you have assisted us! Thank you to the staff at the American Shorthorn Association, those who are able to attend and the ones who stay behind. It takes a team to make this large event happen and each of you go above and beyond to provide support and help before, during and after junior national. Thank you to the junior board and their families. We know it takes extra work for the families while the junior board members have many responsibilities. We appreciate all you do so they can do their jobs. And thank you to the junior board for the hard work the entire year in planning and making things happen. You spend many hours planning, fundraising and working hard so that the show will be successful. You are great leaders and role models for the youth of the Shorthorn Breed. Most importantly, thank you to the Shorthorn breeders and their families. Your support during fundraisers is what makes this event possible! And thank you to all those who attended in 2020 and in the past. The Shorthorn breed truly is a family and it showed with the amazing event we had in Abilene. We couldn’t have an event without the juniors and their participation! And thank you to all those who voted for Shorthorn. The 2020 National Junior Shorthorn Show was amazing. We are looking forward to 2021 in Louisville and the many years to come!

As we continue introducing our Junior Board this week we have one of our directors Kendall Nelson! Age: 21 School/Major: I am finishing my class work online, after coming home to my Family’s farming operation and jump starting our confinement hog operation.... Favorite Show: NAILE Favorite Contest at Junior Nationals: Quiz Bowl Piece of advice to younger kids: Enjoy your moments in the ring, you’ll blink and be on your way out If you could have superpowers what would it be: I would be able to go back in time and check out some different time eras.

Try a new contest at junior nationals that you've never done before. Introduce yourself to another junior from a different state. By trying something new and building new friendships and connections, you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish and you'll create friendships that will last a lifetime. Superpower: Time travel. It would be so cool to travel back in time and in to the future to experience those different cultures.

As we continue introducing our Junior Board This week we have are Vice President Grabriella Leone! Age: 21 School: Kansas State University ... Major: Animal Science, Bioengineering & technology Favorite show: Denver because there is nothing close to matching the environment in the yards. Fav contest: showmanship because we all try to have the best heifer but a huge part of having the best heifer is doing the best at presenting her. Piece of advice to the younger kid: Be as involved as much as possible and talk to everyone you meet in every situation whether it’s at a show or junior nationals, or anywhere in life. There’s no satisfaction in doing things half way. You’re either in or you’re out. Superpower: teleportation- I always want to be everywhere at once and see all my friends in a million different places and time zones.

Go out and do something you never thought you would. You have no idea where it will lead you! If you could have a superpowers, what would it be? Super learning.
