Karen Kay (Keithley) Athon, 62, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020 at her home. The family has requested guests to wear masks. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1976 then studied Equine Science at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO. On October 29, 1976 she was united in marriage to Randall Randy Elver Athon. They would have celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on October 29, 2020. She and Randy owned and operated a successful business in real estate management for over 12 years. She was an accomplished horsewoman, talented freelance photographer, creative craftsman, artist, loyal daughter-sister-friend, and loving wife. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Karen enjoyed gardening, canning, rural living, hunting, motor sports, music and training and showing horses. In addition to her husband and mother, survivors include three brothers, Dean Becker and wife, Lora of Odessa, MO, Elmer Becker Jr. and wife, Jody of Independence, MO, and Lennie Becker of Mayview, MO; a sister, Linda Kahle and husband, Paul of Mound City, MO; and many nieces, nephews, and relatives. Karen was preceded in death by her father and stepfather, Elmer Becker. Pallbearers are Sandi Soendker, Steve Gee, Barbara Berry, John Cope, Elmer Becker, and Omar Hadsall. Honorary pallbearers are Brad King, Ron Folsom, and Lindal Boscholt.

Betty was born on September 23, 1930 to Aaron and Iva (Graham) Chamblin in Cowgill, MO. After graduating from Liberty High School in 1948, she received her degree in Stenography from William Jewell College in Liberty, MO. On September 5, 1962 she was united in marriage to Dorsey Don Cross in Miami, OK. He preceded her in death. After Betty and Don were united in marriage they traveled with the Airforce and Betty was a homemaker taking care of the family. She attended the First Baptist Church of Odessa and was a member and past president of the Maryvale High School Booster Club. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Betty was an avid reader and cherished her dog, Bebe. Survivors include a son Scott Cross and significant other, Vicki of Phoenix, AZ; a daughter Lesley Asher and husband, Tim of Odessa, MO; three grandchildren, Josiah, Isaiah, and Moriah Asher of Odessa, MO; a sister in law, Carolyn Webb and husband, Roger of Gladstone, MO; a nephew, Tim Chamblin and wife, Melissa of Lake Lotawana, MO; three nieces, Stephanie Chamblin, Jennifer Chamblin, and Cindy O’Day; and many relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Graham Chamblin; and a sister, Pauline Hesemann.

Elizabeth was born on January 4, 1930 in Independence, MO to Henry and Emma Annette (Pryor) Hifner. After graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1947, she began her teaching career at Pleasant Grove Elementary School in Independence and attended Central Missouri State University. On August 20 ,1950 Elizabeth was united in marriage to Carl Ray Haney of Coleman, TX in Independence, MO. Enduring a wartime separation, only 6 months into their marriage for Carl’s service in the Korean War from 1951-1952, they were married for 62 years until his passing on January 29, 2013. Elizabeth taught at Ft. Osage, Strasburg, Oak Grove, Mayview, and Odessa Elementary schools for more than 40 years while completing her BSE in 1974 and her MSE in 1977 from Central Missouri State University and later receiving the Crystal Apple Award. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lexington, Optimist Club, Red Hats, Delta Kappa Gamma, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Girl’s Auxiliary. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Elizabeth enjoyed being involved in disaster relief, foster care, International Student Outreach, clowning and tutoring. Survivors include, three sons, Jim Haney (Donna), Jerry Haney (Debbie) and Terry Haney (Konnie) all of Odessa, MO; nine grandchildren, Heather McGee, Rachel Aiello, Chrystal Simpson, Joshua Haney, Kristina Haney, Whitney Brigandi, Karmen Vaughn, Alexandra Echelmeier, and Austin Echelmeier; nine great grandchildren; three great great children; and many relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Elizabeth was preceded in death by a grandson, Andy Warren; and a sister, Mary Louise Beyer.

Nedra Lynn (Taylor) Greenfield, 70, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, MO. Nedra was born on October 27, 1949 in Hutchinson, KS to Harold and Dorothy (Logan) Taylor. She was a 1967 graduate from Buhler High School in Buhler, KS. On April 7, 1979 she was united in marriage to Thomas Tom Greenfield in Lee’s Summit, MO. Nedra worked in customer service for AT&T for over 10 years before becoming a homemake...r. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Odessa and a life member of the VFW auxiliary Post 5675. Nedra enjoyed spending time with family and friends. In addition to her husband, Tom, survivors include a son, Dale Blaine Copenhaver of Marshall, MO; two granddaughters, Diana Copenhaver of Warrensburg, MO and Samantha Ortega of Apopka, FL; three great grandchildren, Karter, Claire, and Kendall Jennings; a sister, Terri Ramos of Hutchinson, KS; a niece, Heather Ramos of Hutchinson, KS; a nephew, Adam Ramos and wife Mandy of Wellington, KS; and many friends and relatives. Heather Judith (Carey) Palmer, 46, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Heather was born on May 18, 1974 in Burbank, CA and raised by her parents Robert Bob Michael and Maureen Kay (LaSuer) Carey in Camarillo, CA. After graduating from La Reina High School in Thousand Oaks, CA in 1992, she attended California Lutheran University, earning her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1996. Heather attended law school while working in the Camarillo, CA area. On December 27, 2003 she was united in marriage to Forest Wayne Palmer in Camarillo, CA. Heather and Wayne relocated to his hometown of Odessa, MO where she then decided to pursue a job in healthcare. Starting in 2005 Heather started out as a CNA then as a nurse intern at Independence Regional Medical Center, subsequently becoming Centerpoint Medical Center, while also attending William Jewell College. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree she accepted a Registered Nurse position in 2007. She later earned a Master of Science with an emphasis in Nursing Administration from Western Governors University. Her career saw her go through many management positions at Centerpoint Medical Center, then being named VP of Nursing Operations for the HCA division located in Kansas City. In 2018 Heather accepted the position as the Chief Nursing Officer for Belton Regional Medical Center. Heather was a member of the St. George Catholic Church in Odessa, MO. In addition to spending time with family and friends, she enjoyed boating, going to the lake, and attending all sporting events of her kids and their friends. She was a most devoted Mother! In addition to her husband and parents, survivors include four sons, Zachary Palmer and wife Jordan, Braedon, Bryce, and Zane Palmer all of Odessa, MO; one daughter, Isabella Palmer of Odessa, MO; a grandchild, Rowan Palmer; a brother, Jordan Sisson and wife Anne of Riverside, CA; a sister, Nicole Prado and husband Ozzie of Odessa, MO; and biological parents, Tim and Jodi Sisson.

He worked for the United States Postal Service and later retired as a pressman from The Kansas City Star. In addition to his mother, survivors include three sisters, Vicki Stubblefield of Odessa, MO, Kim Amos and husband, Ralph of Grain Valley, MO, and Lori Mitchell and husband Dennis of Odessa, MO; one daughter; two grandsons; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to spending time with family, friends, and adoring her grandchildren & great grandchildren, Darlene enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, and volunteering at her church. Davijean Puddin (Filler) Barker, 86, Odessa, Mo, died, Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Oak Grove Nursing home, Oak Grove, Mo. A private family service will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, Mo, 64076, 816-633-5524. Interment will follow in the Odessa Cemetery. She was born May 26, 1934, the daughter of David Elbert and Ethel Grace Rankin Filler, north of Odessa, Mo, on the family farm. Her mother died when Davijean was just 14 years old of cancer. Being the oldest one at home, after school, she took over cooking for the family of four, everything from homemade pies to making meatloaf. She was the greatest cook at such a young age. Davijean graduated from Odessa High School, class of 1952. She was employed at Sears in KCMO from 1952-1957. She married Mervin F. Barker on September 14, 1957, at the home of the Rev. Thomas Dyer and they had 52 years together before he preceded her in death on August 28, 2009. After their marriage, they headed for Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela where Mervin was employed with Williams Bros. Pipeline and they would live there for eight months. Then Davijean flew home and Mervin went on the Arica, Chile where he would work for five more months before returning to the states. They continued to travel in Canada and all over the United States, Mervin pulling the trailer and Davijean following behind in the car. When their son was ready for high school, they built a home in Emporia, Kansas in 1972 and they would stay until 1983. Mervin continue to travel with his job but was home every weekend. Davijean went to work at Interstate Brands from 1972-1974 and Emporia High School from 1974-1983. In 1983, as their son had moved to Phoenix, Arizona and Mervin was working out of the Kansas City office, they built a home in Odessa, Mo. One year later Mervin retired as superintendent of field construction after 25 years. Survivors include; a son, Douglas D. Barker, St. Louis, Mo., brother in law Gerald Coupland, two grandchildren Hailey and Dillon Barker and several nieces and nephews. Davijean was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two sisters, Betty Coupland and Dixie Scott; a brother Robert Filler; and a brother-in-law, Leonard Scott, all of Odessa. Pallbearer’s include; Douglas Barker, Dillon Barker, Brendan Madsen, Brady Madsen, Brandon Filler, and Brian Madsen.

Garth Ray Flournoy, 95, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Meyer Care Center in Higginsville, MO. After graduating from Odessa High School in 1943 he served in the United States Army during World War II. On September 8, 1957 Garth was united in marriage to Alice Etoile (Eldredge) in Raytown, MO at the Blue Ridge Presbyterian Church. He lived in Independence, MO for 30 years, before returning to the Odessa area in 1988 after retiring from Missouri Public Service Company where he worked as an engineer. His amateur radio call was W0GR. Garth was an experimental builder who designed, built, and operated amateur radio equipment on micro-wavelengths, and high and ultra-high frequencies. Besides the technical challenge, he loved talking to people all over the world for the more than 70 years he was licensed. Garth was a lifetime member of the American Radio League, Quarter Century Wireless Association, Central States VHF Society, and other microwave engineering and discussion groups. His other hobby was his fantastic photography, with which he documented vacation travels as well as his nieces growing up. And he had a distinct and wonderful sense of humor that was appreciated by all who knew him. Garth was a Presbyterian and served on the session and participated in many church activities. In addition to his beloved wife, Alice Ally, Garth is survived by two nieces, Marla Struebin and Ann Rai and their families.

Chicky's focus in life was her family and taking care of them. Survivors include four sons, Rick Washam (Debbie) of Oak Grove, MO, Bruce Washam (Linda) of Odessa, MO, Curtis Washam (Cindy) of Rocky Mount, MO, and Rob Washam (Capri) of Lee’s Summit, MO; a son in law, Ben Livingston of Independence, MO; ten grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He served his time on a submarine and earned the Victory Medal WWII. Paul was honorably discharged on February 27, 1948. On June 17, 1950 Paul was united in marriage to Bernadine Ann (Kaminski) in Fairway, KS. He worked as a Repeater Man Technician for Southwestern Bell Telephone from 1951 until retiring in 1982. Paul was a member of the CWA local, B Squares, and the St. George Catholic Church of Odessa, MO. Paul enjoyed spending time with family and friends. In addition to his wife, Bernadine of 70 years, survivors include two sons, Richard Magruder and wife Melody of Independence, MO, and Michael Magruder and wife Barbara of Odessa, MO; and three daughters, Patricia Pudenz and husband Mark of Odessa, MO, Sharon Thompson and husband Randall of Bolivar, MO, and Teresa Christeson of Odessa, MO; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 9 step great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
