Honoring veterans is one of the most important ways we can say thank you for their service in defense of our freedoms. American flags are available at no cost for families and friends who visit the graves of their beloved veteran for Memorial Day. Flags are available at the cemetery office or at the front entrance during business hours Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. Please note that staff will not be onsite on Memorial Day. If you are looking to find wh...ere someone is buried: 1. Visit stjoememorialpark.com 2. Enter first and last name of the buried. A list of matching graves will appear below the Cemetery Section. The Lot Number and Grave will appear to the right 3. In the upper left corner, select 'Map' 4. We are pleased to invite families to our free Community Farewell Ceremony next Saturday, May 29th at 10AM. Families are encouraged to place the ashes of their loved ones in the Whispering Pines Ossuary as a final resting place at no cost. We know there are many families that were unable to gather for a proper memorial service due to gathering restrictions over the last year. We hope that this even provides not only a time and space to celebrate the life of your loved one with... family and friends, but also a final resting place that will always be available to visit. Families who wish to place cremated remains in the Ossuary are asked to call the office Monday through Thursday, 8-5, to schedule a time to complete necessary authorization. The event will take place at the Whispering Pines Cremation Garden within Memorial Park Cemetery. Please call St. Joseph Memorial Park office at 816-233-2526 for more information.

Another friendly reminder that our semi-annual Cemetery Clean-Up will be on Monday, June 7th. Again, if you wish to keep your personal decor we kindly ask that you remove these items prior to Monday.

After the tragic loss of Emerald the swan last month, we are happy to update you that Ruby and her babies are doing great. All six cygnets are growing so quickly and are oh so adorable! We want to thank those of you who came to Memorial Park recently to visit them! As the weather warms up, they would love more visitors!

This month, we are featuring Ron Denbow, Licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer, for our Meierhoffer Q&A! Q: Why did you choose to become a Funeral Director & Embalmer? A: This was not the first career I had after I graduated high school. I worked to support my family at other jobs. I decided to go to mortuary school because I felt that as a funeral director I would be in a position not only to provide for my family, but to make a difference in the lives of people in my commun...ity as well. I have always been a people person. My role at Meierhoffer gives me the satisfaction I was looking for. Q: What does a day in the life look like for your position? A: My primary responsibilities all center around the preparation of the deceased, so that means throughout the day I may be working on the technical aspects of embalming and cremation. Providing the best possible last image of a family's loved one is my main focus every day. As a staff member who has both funeral directing and embalming licenses, I also get a chance to meet with families to make arrangements and to participate in funeral services and visitations as well. Q: What is the most rewarding part of your role? A: That’s the easiest question to answer of all. Helping families that I have known through tough times, and meeting new families to help every day.
