Apparently flu and colds spread the country near Christmas and continue to persist at high rates. Baby boomers were told to cover our cough and as seen below we have become automated reactors to the cough. Have you ever considered the number of times you covered your cough with hands only to open a door, turn on a light or offer a tissue to a peer?... Through out our youth into adulthood we may continue to place our hands at our mouth whilst unintentionally spreading more contact germs than eliminating them. Today’s specialist continue to ask the public to cover their cough. Same motto and purpose but different results. Youngsters today are asked to cover their cough. The difference between then and now is that children are taught to cover their cough with the elbow. Think about it, how many elbows open doors, touch light switches or use group crayons? If you’re a baby boomer you may be covering your cough wrongly. In the future give yourself a hug, cough into your elbow and stop sharing your cough crud with others.

Now that the presents have been given and the New Year count down has been celebrated, it’s time for the children to return to school. Here’s a thought to parents; this new year will be almost the same for your students as the first day of school. Children are anxious to see their friends and parents look forward to a return of structure. As an educator I found many children exhausted most of their ‘new day of school’ supplies. The crayons are broken, the notebooks need paper, pencils are missing erasers, and Kleenex tissue is sparse within the classroom. Please consider your child’s supplies, ask them or their teacher if they need supplies refreshed, and jazz up their tools for school.
