I still believe this is true.

Hat’s off to any of you who are feeling optimistic today. I don’t have that in me. I feel angry and horrified that over 66 million people voted for someone who denies facts, supports white supremacy, and lacks empathy.

I first met Kim from @kimdyesyarn when I piggybacked on a fundraiser for ACLU she participated in with Adella from LolaBean. I feel so lucky to know Kim, and piggybacked again on her charitable plans with her November Community Matters yarns by donating our proceeds to @ourcommoncause @advancingjustice_aajc & @soulstothepolls Thanks to all your orders, we raised over $1000! Thank you, Kim, for your great example. I’m glad we are friends. #communitymatters

Calling all cat-lovers! Remember this summer when we received some visitors from @greatplainsspca for my birthday? That was a fantastic day, and so much fun to spend time with two very rambunctious kittens! We’ve partnered with our friends at Great Plains SPCA to support their Home for the Holidays program: every cat that’s adopted is sent home with at least one toy of their own. Now through Thanksgiving, we’re collecting cat toys that will be donated to Great Plains.... If you’d like to make a toy to be donated, keep in mind the following guidelines from Great Plains: No toys with long strings of yarn (like wand toys); these can get wrapped around their necks or legs and tighten. Soft hand-made toys would be greatly appreciated, maybe even filled with cotton balls or scraps of fleece, especially if they have been dipped in catnip. There’s a Ravelry bundle of knit and crochet patterns at the link in our profile if you need a suggestion of what to make! Toys may be dropped off at Yarn Social (or you can mail them to us) by November 25. Thanks in advance for helping out our feline friends!!

TODAY'S THE LAST DAY TO PRE-ORDER KIM DYES YARN'S NOVEMBER COLORWAYS For November, Kim's colorways celebrate our shared experience as Americans as we participate in the voting process. The colorways are a nod to the symbolic importance of this year’s election, encouraging people to find hope and optimism as we watch the process unfold and to continue to find hope and optimism as the outcome is processed. Her November colors are dyed on fingering weight tweed yarn (85% superw...ash merino, 15% nylon neps). Kim's Community Matters colorways are available for pre-order through October 31. Kim dyes the yarn to order and then sends the yarn back to us by November 25, so your order will be ready around the end of November. Kim is donating her profits from these November yarns to three non-profits, and we are doing the same. The organizations we will be donating to are: * Common Cause (http://www.commoncause.org/) works for election protection, voter rights and other causes important for our democracy. * Asian Americans Advancing Justice (http://www.advancingjustice-aajc.org/) focuses on removing barriers Asian Americans face in voting. * Souls to the Polls (http://www.soulstothepollsmke.org/) is a faith-based initiative in Milwaukee to empower Black congregations to vote and get their voices heard. This selection is in honor of Tahra Loy of Brew City Yarns, lost to COVID-19 this year. Election day is Tuesday! Have you voted yet? If not, do you have a plan for how you're going to vote? We're available Monday and Tuesday to notarize any ballots that need it. Drop-ins are welcome! SIGN UPS STILL OPEN FOR BRIOCHE KNITTING CLASSES WITH AMY DETJEN If you've taken a class with Amy Detjen, you know that she is an endless source of knitting know-how. Amy's signed on to teach a 3-part series of brioche knitting classes via Zoom! Classes are $40 each, or $100 for all three! Friends, I hope you can enjoy the sunshine today! Until next time, Trish
