Happy new year, everyone! Last semester, we had the pleasure to end the year 2020 with a virtual initiation of very bright pledges of Chi Epsilon and we were also delighted to have Mr Gary White as our Chapter Honor Member!
Bonfires never disappoint as a great social distancing event where good food gathers good friends and definitely good times. Our members and pledges practiced their fire starting skills as you can see in the photos.
Despite going virtual all semester long because of COVID, our new pledges still got to make awesome plaques this semester. Which one do you like the best? Proud of our honors students in Missouri S&T Civil, Architectural & Environmental Engineering (CArE)! #MinersRock !
We have some sad news to share. This week we lost an icon of civil engineering in Rolla Mo, an alumnus that spanned MSM/UMR/S&T and was relevant to our department and to the MSM/UMR/S&T campus for more than 6 decades. He is one of two Chi Epsilon national honor members from the Missouri S&T Chapter, https://www.chi-epsilon.org/XEWebGeneral2/About/NHMBio.aspx Bob Bay passed away peacefully Sunday evening at home, at the age of 94. Bob was in the first class of our Academy o...f Civil Engineering at S&T and the first president, and he had career accolades far too numerous to recount. Bob was a consummate engineer, decorated soldier, dedicated husband and father, and leader in all he ever endeavored to accomplish. Bob was a World War II veteran in the pacific theatre and rose to Major General, Corps of Engineers in the US Army Reserve. He had a storied career with Laclede Steel and was then a principal of Black and Veatch. Amongst his career accomplishments, many were unique among our 150 years of civil engineering in Rolla Mo. Bob was the national President of ASCE, he was the 58th Chi Epsilon National Honor Member, he was awarded the S&T Chancellor’s medal, he was commencement speaker, and he was in the initial class of S&T Alumni of Influence. Bob was a stalwart of our alumni association, as president and rarely missing a meeting in decades. Bob received his Bachelor's of Civil Engineering in 1949, after his service in world war II. Bob also received the Distinguished Service Medal, the second-highest military honor. I encourage all to read through his accomplishments and obituary. https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/name/robert-bay-obituary Bob is surely at peace and beside Peggy, his wife, friend, and partner in life for 68 years. We should share a moment of sadness, and then celebrate an exemplary life that should serve as inspiration.
We were delighted to have in our nominations meeting yesterday as a guest speaker, Mr. R.J. Agee, Director of Development at NorthPoint Developments. Thanks for the great and informative presentation and for answering all the questions from our members and pledges. Nominations are still open for all positions till before our next meeting if you would like to nominate yourself or a friend. Please contact us here or any officer if you have any questions.
