At 9:30 pm we were dispatched to a house fire on Scenic Dr in Hollister. There was very little information available during the response. E122 from station 12 was the first unit in the scene reporting a well involved single story single family house. As they started an attack on the fire other crew were establishing a water supply with a tanker shuttle. E13 drafted from Table Rock Lake filling tankers. Crews initially used the deck gun on the truck to knock down the large por...tion of the fire. Then switched to using three 1 3/4 hand lines to finish to extinguish the fire. One person was displaced and the Red Cross was contacted for her. White River Electric responded to shut the power off. The Western Support Team and Taney County Ambulance provided rehab for the firefighters. The State Fire Marshall has been contacted to determine the cause of the fire. At 11:00 pm crews were still on the scene. See more

There is extreme fire risk today. Wind gust over 40mph and extremely dry conditions are a dangerous mixture. Some did not heed our warning yesterday and a small trash pile went to a four acre brush fire in minutes. Please use caution.

At 4:20 am today our northern stations along with R17 were paged to a structure fire at 371 Misty Mtn Rd in Walnut Shade. While responding dispatch told us that it was a mobile home and that everyone was out. Chief 1 and E92 arrived first finding some flames coming from the roof of a 5th wheel camper that is being used as a primary residence. E92 used one hand line and quickly extinguished the main fire. E73 and E23’s personell assisted to overhaul the fire area and remove a ...refrigerator. T75 provided additional water since this is in a non hydrant area, which we did not need. The fire was contained to the area of the refrigerator with smoke damage throughout. The trailer did not have working smoke alarms and the resident got awoken by a load popp and his dogs barking. Taney County Ambulance was on standby, although there were no injuries. All units cleared the scene at 6 am. This resident got very lucky that he woke up by the popp and his dogs. It’s much safer to rely on a working smoke alarm!! See more

E23 was the first Engine on the scene. They pulled the first line to extinguish the exterior fire then went inside to pull the ceiling in the living room to get to the attic. We are currently at 825 Freeman Lane on a house fire. Initially it was reported as a brushfire, however it was quickly changed to a house fire with a brushfire. When units arrived the building was fully involved and collapsing. The house has been vacant for some time. The initial arriving crews focused their fire attack on the perimeter, since there was a boat, car, outbuilding and a neighbors house threatened by the brushfire. The second arriving engine setup a Porta tank and relay pumped to the attack engine. Tankers then hauled water from OTC in Hollister. Rescue 17 provided scene lighting. The brush fire did jumped Freeman lane and down a steep embankment. We send crews from the fire to extinguish it. TCAD was on the scene for stand-by and our Support Team provided rehab for the firefighters.

On 9/30/2020 as a part of an ongoing training program., Western held a live-fire exercise on the Hollister Schools agricultural program property. In all Western burned approximately 18 acres while conducting training on backfire/burnouts, fire behavior, establishing fire lines, water supply, brush truck operations, and incident command objectives. Crews started at 5:45pm and wrapped up just before 9:00pm. The smoke was an impressive show for most of the county but we assure y...ou there was no danger to the public. We rarely burn off the property because of the complexity and manpower requirements, however with as dry as the weather has been this year, Western felt it imperative for its members to practice and hone their skills in a controlled environment before the fall brush fire season comes upon us. We want to thank Hollister Schools for the use of their property and their support of the fire district. We would also like to thank our residents for their understanding of the smoke in the area.
