Our Aquarium critters aren't the only things moving around here! We recently made a head swap in our King of Bucks Collection - and an impressive one at that! The new addition ranks second in Minnesota for typicals, with its mass, symmetry and tine length adding up to a final score of 201 . Oh deer!

In honor of #WorldWildlifeConservationDay, we wanted to take this time to talk about our resident green sea turtles, Izzy and Ms. Pam. Our beloved turtles found their home at WOW after being injured in the wilda common occurrence for the endangered species due to various threats. Izzy and Ms. Pam suffered serious physical trauma including abrasions, injured flippers and neurologic damage. After rehab, the turtles were given weights to help them maintain their natural orien...tation, allowing them to swim and breathe more easily. Although both animals made a significant recovery, they were deemed non-releasable, requiring human care to thrive. Izzy and Ms. Pam have found their forever homes at Wonders of Wildlife, where they receive world-class care from our passionate animal care team. To support our turtles with a symbolic adoption, visit wondersofwildlife.org/adopt.

Happy early birthday to visionary conservationist and 26th President of the United States, Theodore Teddy" Roosevelt! This week we honor his impressive legacy, which includes the oldest conservation organization founded by Teddy himself, Boone and Crockett Club. Founded in 1887, this organization established the principles of wildlife and habitat conservation, hunter ethics, and many of the institutions, expert agencies, science and funding mechanisms for conservation.

You've likely seen Stubby around the Aquarium, always with a smile and a wave (and a hat). As a long-time volunteer at WOW, Stubby says the experience has been "therapeutic" to him. He loves getting to listen to the calming sound of the water and the animals, but especially loves his daily interaction with guestsand the guests sure love him! Let's take a minute to learn about coral reefs! These mesmerizing, diverse ecosystems are actually living animals. In fact, they're colonies of individual animals called polyps, which are related to sea anemones, and attract a multitude of other underwater organisms.

Meet our grouper, George Believe it or not, this guy loves to interact with his keepers and will even swim to the surface in expectation when they arrive. Some groupers, like George, actually find tactile (touching) interactions rewarding and will gladly accept this form of positive reinforcement for coming to the target ball. Keep up the good work George!

In honor of #CephalopodAwarenessDays, we wanted to take this time to talk about our beloved Octopus, Athena. Athena is going through a process called senescenceA natural process that happens to Giant Pacific Octopus both in the wild and in human carewhere they slowly deteriorate as they near the end of their short average life span of just 35 years. Our animal care team is working closely with Athena to ensure she is comfortable and receiving extra attention during thi...s phase. We will miss Athena’s playful personality, and are so grateful for everything she has taught her keepers and fans during the time she called WOW home. For more information on senescence in GPOs, visit our blog: https://bit.ly/33KEp6X
