O the internet! Yes there is tons of advice about water wells and equipment. Yes even videos of people replacing their own pump and many other things, the bigge...st problem I have with 99% of this material is, it's someone doing it for the first time! This is very bad! Their pump might only be 40' down, yours might be 400'! If you drop the pumpline in the well you'll have wished you spent the $300-$800 dollars labor to have it done professionally! (Maybe more, maybe less) if that's even the problem, a professional can diagnose the problem correctly. People have said "I checked this and that, it's gotta be the pump" a lot of times it's not. Besides even if you are handy and get it done it won't last, not trying to insult you, you are just not a professional that has experience and quality products. I have replaced many parts after a home owner/handy man repair, most were just a year or two old. Furthermore the parts you get at your local home improvement store are JUNK, yes I said JUNK! Yes they cost 50-75% less but there's a reason! Maybe you decided to call a professional, great!! Now your going to get on the internet and arm yourself with information on pricing and know how so when they show up you can tell them how much stuff should cost and how someone else did this or that, NO! DON'T DO THAT! Make sure you call a local, reputable company in the first place and you won't have to worry! Yes, stuff is "cheaper on the internet". There is a lot of reasons why, the products have old date codes, it's not the same exact product advertised (it's a cheaper version), the price or product is no longer available when you go to checkout, I'm sure there's more reasons but last but not least these sites don't have a store front or overhead like a well company. You mean the well guy is making money on the parts he sells!? Yes he has to! That phone number you found in the phone book, the website, the licensing ( well contractors license and vehicles), insurance (he's pays his own health, auto, business, life, unemployment insurance), fuel, cellphone, shop and office utilities, wear and tear on equipment, repairs, self employment tax, payroll tax and the jobs he doesn't get paid for and everything I failed to mention all really add up! After all that he wouldn't mind actually taking some home either. He doesn't get paid vacation or benefits. So don't beat him up on price, he's got bills to pay too. Anyway, just because it's "cheaper on the internet" or someone had a how to video doesn't mean you will actually save money at the end of the day, and besides if you are the man of the house you don't want your wife mad at you for being out of water for days on end when a professional can usually fix it the same day!!
