So, Dad kept a journal of the shop. There aren't a lot pages filled in, and he only started it within the last 10 or 12 years, so most of it was filled in from memory, but I am sure glad that he did. It is such a joy to be able to glance through the history of this place. This particular page is obviously a list of the locations of the shop. So here is a small snapshot of the history of White Front, written by Stan the Man himself. Thanks for keeping notes, Dad. So what can w...e learn from this? Pretty easy this week... Write it down. Keep track of your story for the next generation. Tell your stories, write your Facebook posts, keep a journal. Share your story. Also, have a story worth telling. Take some risks, be willing to experience something amazing. Don't allow yourself to live with the regret of missed opportunities. If you think you want to try something new, don't let the only thing keeping you from doing it be your decisions. About 6 or 7 years ago, I had an idea that it would be pretty cool to become a barber and work with Dad on Saturdays. I could have very easily decided not to, it would have been simple, but now that Dad has passed I treasure those years. I have no regrets. So, live a life worth talking about, and then share your story. Have a blessed week.
Good morning everyone! As mentioned previously, I am closed this week. I wanted to share with you the reason... This has been my view at sunrise for the past week. My family and I have been hanging out in a cabin at Thunder Lake in Minnesota. Now, I'm not just trying to show off my vacation photos here, although, seriously, that's a pretty good shot, but I am showing you this as a reminder that you have to remember to take some time away. I always hate having to close the sho...p, I truly want to be there for my patrons, but if we have learned nothing else from the past year or so, hopefully you have gained some understanding of how important mental health is to you and everyone else around you. So take care of yourselves, mentally and physically. Your car sure wouldn't last too long without maintenance and fuel, and neither will you. So my best advice to you today... take some time, it's worth it. See you next week. #VacationTime #MentalHealthMatters #FamilyFirst
Another story from the archives. This was always one of dad's favorite stories. Enjoy.
Just a heads up... I am leaving tomorrow morning for a bit of a vacation. I will be out in the North woods of Minnesota. Hoping to cross paths with Bigfoot, but we'll see. I will be back in the shop on Saturday, June 19th. Have a blessed week, my friends.
An educational post of sorts today... Let's talk about Hair Tonic. First of all what is it? Well it's a really old type of product, it been around for more than a century. There are 2 different basic varieties, with and without oil. I don't personally use the kind with oil because it weighs down your hair. The oil free kind gained popularity in the 1920's, not for it's grooming capabilities, but for it's alcohol content. Barbers were popular places at that time anyway since ...many men came several times a week for a shave, but they became even more popular during prohibition, when they were one of the few distributors of legal alcohol. There were several liquor companies that rebranded themselves as hair tonic distributors during that time. Contemporary tonics don't have the same kind of formula, and under no circumstances do I ever recommend giving it a taste. So what is it good for these days? Well it assists in grooming your hair, making it much more manageable. If you have product in your hair already and it is losing its hold, a little tonic will revitalize it and bring back some hold. It also moisturizes and conditions your hair, making it healthier and shinier. It can reduce dry scalp and dandruff, and most importantly... It just makes you smell like a man. My wife says it makes me smell like an OLD man, but hey, I like it. I have several varieties at the shop, which are available upon request. See more
