Westport Park and Pool 16.11.2020

Swimmers, please read: With school starting in Springfield Tuesday, Aug. 13, the last day of the regular pool season was Sunday, Aug. 11. Most of our lifeguards... and cashiers are students, so it’s not possible to keep pools open during school. Fassnight and Grant Beach pools reopen Saturdays and Sundays only through Labor Day. We have just one pool open Monday, Aug. 12: Grant Beach is open regular hours, 1-6:30 p.m. Despite the heat advisory, we are unable to extend hours Monday night. Thanks for a fun pool season, and have a great school year! See more

You've probably noticed: Westport Pool is full and holding water (!!!) The pool is opening Saturday, June 29, 1-6:30 p.m. After that the pool is open daily 1-6:30, closed Tuesdays. Thank you, everyone, for your patience as we worked through repairs. The solution came through reinforcing metal boxes around the drain, and a technique called mud jacking, which involves drilling small holes in the pool shell and injecting a sealant beneath the shell surface. After several rounds of mud jacking, the pool is now holding water well enough to open. Park Board staff is so happy, and we know you are too! Let's swim! UPDATE June 21: Parks Staff has continued to do mud jacking under the pool shell, as well as installed a new reinforced steel box around the drain. We're cautiously optimistic that these repairs will hold water, and that we're getting closer to being able to reopen. We're continuing to test the repairs, and as always, will keep this post updated. Update June 17: Parks staff is continuing to work on repairs. We're using a technique called mud jacking, which includes drilling t...iny holes through the pool shell an injecting a liquid sealant, which expands to fill gaps. It's a process that takes a little time to both inject and set up. We've been testing the seals with small amounts of water, and we're pleased with the improvement, but we're still doing additional repairs to make sure the pool will hold water. Update June 7: Parks staff has identified the source of the leak to be in the pool’s two main drains. Repairs have been attempted on both drains this week, and the pool will be partially filled this weekend to test the repairs. If the water holds through the weekend, the pool could reopen within a week. If the pool continues to leak, excavation may be required to access and rebuild the drain, and the pool would be closed for a few more weeks. Update May 30: Park staff and plumbing contractors have spent the last several days determining where the leak is NOT, and through the process of elimination, we now believe it is inside the main pool drain, beneath the pool. We're hopeful we can make repairs without excavating the pool, and we should know more in the next few days. Thank you for your patience. May 24 post: We are sorry, but Westport Pool is closed until further notice due to a major underground water leak. The pool is rapidly losing water and cannot hold enough for the filtration system to operate (details in comments.) Updates will be posted on this Facebook page. All other Park Board pools open Saturday and follow regular schedules, posted at ParkBoard.org/Aquatics

PARENTS: please keep your kids and teens out of flooded waterways in parks. This may look like a fun place to play today but it’s actually very dangerous. Lots of spots in parks are underwater due to flooding. Please be safe and stay out of the water. Thank you.
