Camille and I were sharing an apartment with fellow SanFransiscans @aureliadandrea and @twowheelin_maverick in the 11th arrondissement on Rue Paul Bert, when C ...and I found this Parisian bathroom window, with broken glass, on the street to be picked up with the trash. We took it back to the apartment, crated it up, and sent it back to the states. It cost us over $100 in shipping. It was a fortune, for us, at the time. Jeff and Aurelia thought we were crazy. We last saw them, in Paris, in the fall of 2014. After living in Paris for more than a decade they moved back to the states not too long after the 2015 Paris terrorists attacks. Nineteen people were gunned down at Le Belle Equipe. A suicide bomber blew himself up in Comptoir Voltaire injuring several people. Both restaurants were within a short walk of our old apartment. In all, 130 people were killed and just under 500 people were injured. The recent election has had me thinking about a decal that Camille used to have on her commuter bicycle that read, fundamentalism (extremism), ugly in any color. Jeff and Aurelia now live in Nevada City, California, where they grew up. They have their favorite crystal clear swimming holes on the South Yuba river and Aurelia just saw a bear in their yard recently. Of course Camille and I live in Paradise now, where we spot groundhogs, and have a favorite little sandy beach on Smithville Lake, near our house. Though I have to say the crystal clear of the South Yuba river has nothing on the mossy green of Smithville Lake! We put mirrors in our 1 1/2‘ x 5‘ tall Parisan window and it is now one of the focal pieces of our living room. I know they thought it was crazy, and they are two of my favorite people in the world, but every time I look at that mirror I get a flood of priceless memories that only cost 100 bucks.
