Wentzville Community Club 19.01.2021

For 85+ years the Wentzville Community Club (WCC) has contributed funds to the City and other causes in the area. The Wentzville Missouri Police Department has... been on the receiving end many times, from the first two-way radios the department used, to police dogs and training, the Community Club has been there to help. But, in 1986, the Community Club contributed money to purchase a car that is still in use today 35 years later! I am not talking about any ordinary car. I’m talking about the remote-control car that the Police Department still uses today as part of their DARE program. The car has eyes, speaks, stands 34 inches tall, and weighs less than 80 pounds. In 1986, the Community Club presented a donation of $4k to Marshall DeWinters to purchase the car. At the time, the car cost $3,495. The company that produces the car is still in business, and their latest version sells for almost $10k. In February 1987, the car arrived in Wentzville and was shown to the Board of Alderman. Today, Historical Society President Lois Kessler, as well as Community Club President Bob Fredericks, were delighted to meet the little car in person. It has had a few repairs and paint jobs over the years but appears to still be going strong. We want to thank the Wentzville Police Department for giving Lois and Bob a personal look at the car. The car was used by the department to increase public awareness, and by officers during safety and drug education presentations in local schools. Do you remember the car visiting your school? If so, please share your story!
